Mars South Vietnamese Troops Expeditionary Force French Infantry Mars
As showed on our main page Mars has done South Vietnamese troops. This is the last in their Vietnam series. The set has eight different poses. They are as follows:
- with pistol and rifle. wearing a beret
- advancing with heavy machine gun in helmet
- walking with rifle left hand is on his helmet
- advancing with automatic weapon wearing a beret
- kneeling throwing a grenade or waving wearing a helmet
- Left arm out to the side pointing wearing a helmet
- advancing with M16 point up in the air left hand has ammo box wearing a helmet
- kneeling wearing a helmet
A couple of the poses we will need clarification. I normally do not comment on company’s figures because the company spent time and money making them. Normally I let you the readers make the judgement. This time I have to say something. These figures are bad and I am being nice. There are no firing poses. The faces are terrible on some of the figures. Having the soldier advance with heavy machine that is so Hollywood For myself I am going to pass on these figures. Let’s hear your thoughts.

The next item is a future relase the Expeditionary Force light and line Napoleonic infantry. What makes these figures interesting are they can be used in other periods. Here is Erwin’s observations on these figures.

I had always defend the cheap line from this maker.
But on this I admit they went to limits of absurdity.
Only two are firing possible.
Rest are extremely boring poses and they waste the set.
The one firing the heavy 30 is as admin say very unrealistic and specially been an small asian person this could not be practical done.
The helmets in some looks not as M2 but french post indochina verssion that were never issues to the SVA.
So they screw up big time and I think they can only be use as support x US as artillery else poses or some x WW2 or Korea maybe.
My thoughts..
Best…
These aren’t very good. About the only thing I like is that the man on the far left seems to have a pump shotgun. These are only half a step above figures you might find in a bag at Dollar Tree.
The faces on the S. Vietnamese that I could see in the picture all look well defined and racially correct – I can’t understand why you don’t like them.
From a wargamer’s perspective I agree with you that more firing figures would be useful but this alone would not deter me from buying them.
I’m not sure about the comment about helmet accuracy but I would think the difference mentioned to be barely perceptible.
The sculpting of the figures is excellent.
The south Vietnamese look ok to me but I would like some French made for indo-china war. The expeditionary force French look great look forward to seeing what else they come out with.
The lack of shooting poses is to be regretted. But the sculpting of these figures is still pretty good, as have been all of the MARS Vietnam War sets. I’ve gotton them all, and for some reason they actually all look better in person than in the photos. I’m planning on getting these, too.
And while we’re on the subject of previously poorly-covered conflicts (toy soldier-wise), I’m still anxiously awaiting new additions to the CTS Korean War line.
XForcc has now posted additional pictures of their Napoleonic infantry..
Thanks for the unpdate
The French Dragoons are now on the XForce future release page.
And now the British have been added to the future release page.
