Germany Plastic Figure Show March 2017

Germany Plastic Figure Show March 2017 was held on March 2017.  The show had dealers and collectors from Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, UK, Northern Ireland, Belgium, Russia and Switzerland besides Germany.  The show run by Peter Bergner and his wife Ute with help of Markus Lecksheid and others give the collector a wide array of figures to look at and purchase.  We have a number of photos from our friends in Germany Axel Sohnius. Andreas Dittmann and Markus Lecksheid to share. I hope to get a few more from another source.

thank brian, Laurie and I recognized the fave but could not put a name to it. I remember buying a copy of the MPC pirateship from him

As far as toy soldiers go, I can think of few activities —- maybe finding a mint Marx MIB playset at a yard sale —- that would be more unadulterated fun than spending a couple of hours working my way down Peter Bergner’s long row of plastic toy soldier tubs.

But its offerings and stuff like this that you find at toy soldier shows, which is why as events they are so enjoyable.

    Indiana, here we come.

Bergner’s figure boxes is unique because he has so many boxes. . It has a lot of foreign figures mixed in. The closet to that is Gerry Watt’s tables if he has room. His figures will be various prices, but you have an interesting choices.

    Amazing!!!.
I had not see any like that here.
I can see they really cover plastic way more .Most dealers here are mix metal and plastic and many carry same old things year after years. The one w large plastic are most new productions here.
That show in picture , you see rows after rows of plastic in great prices .Crazy and pretty.
    Thanks x sharing pictures….
    My thoughts. ..
    Best..

We can thank Axel Sohnius, Andreas Dittmann and Markus Lecksheid for taking the time to take and share the photos. Prices will run the range from reasonable to our they kidding. I miss it.

      • Erwin says:

        I had thanks already Markus..
But you as well admin x post here..
Well I guess prices will go insanely in all shows too.
But there many things u can find there more cheap than here or actually never see here at all at shows.
By sample Plastik, DOM, Maurba brands are very common and cheap there. Here you barrely see and those have then ask if were gold from two centuries ago.
        My thoughts

        • admin says:

You have to know your market. Germany is not the place to buy Timpo with some exceptions. The companies along with Jean that mention yes. Sometimes you will find figures such as Marx at reasonable prices. At the PW show I got Marx 45mm Space Patrol figures in steel blue a color not seen in the states.

          • Erwin says:

Yes I agree Timpo is not.
Lucky x me i’m not interested in Timpo. Is one of my least care brands. While plastik and other swopppet are.
Australia is another top payer x TIMPO too.
I think u get better deals in TIMPO from UK than Germany.

            Any how not my market.
Is like in SPAIN original early issues sets Reamsa and Jecsan are high mark while in border (France) much less.
            Crazy hobby.
If I were to GERMANY to get items x resale I will hunt most not painted brands that I know sale here good and germans made ac lot .Speciallly western.
Heinerle, Dom, manurba, Leyla, Jean, Koho and others
Swoppet and painted figures is a different high rank mark market.
Still you can bring many painted former DDR brands western cheap x resale if like .
            My thoughts…
            Best….

          • Andy says:

Where would you buy Timpo? I have found eBay Germany to be the BEST source for Timpo for quality, prices, and shipping. I have paid more for simple 1st Class shipping from WV (overcharged on eBay) than from Germany. German shipping runs around $7 – $10 vs $8.50 (actual cost under $3) from WV & (e.g.) $9 from NYC. England shipping is high and Italy is more for shipping than for purchases. One guy in CA overcharged me by $7 for shipping & told me he has to consider packing (bubble envelope) and his “travel expense” to PO??????? Finally refunded part of $7 after deducting “service charge” !! Had to laugh.
So, if Germany is bad, what is the BEST place for Timpo that’s not all beat up?

          • admin says:

Timpo will be the best quality from Germany. Outside of Uk it was Timpo’s biggest market. That said the common items will be reasonable. More desired items and color variations can be crazy in price. The Germans are big in color variations which can double and triple the price

          • Erwin says:

            Andy.
I do not buy Timpo any more x long.
As far shipping UK EBAY sellers are using the global system. That is why more costly.
Ask sellers from UK use non global and u will get better price.
In Germany are plenty sellers off ebay site selling then too.
            Belgium and DUTCH sellers also.
Italian sellers often sale Timpo listed as generic swoopet.
The rarely use the TIMPO brand name to list because their brand Nardi huge swoopet line compete.
They devalute Timpo as not match w most NARDI and GIOPI scales. While they value more CHERLIEA and PLASTY swoopet as match in scales w then.
Other swoppet brands to be found interesting are from FRANCE.
Cofalu and Cyrano.I may had spell last wrong.
Jecsan did a swoopet line in 70 mm too.
            Sorry.
            Best.

          • Andy says:

I find FAR better deals on MIB Timpo from Germany than anywhere. English stuff is usually flawed in some way and forget USA entirely. As far as crazy prices – just like our friend with the $25,000 battleships on eBay – you just laugh that off as a bad joke. Some people may LIST high, but they don’t seem to ever SELL much.

  4. j hudson says:

I intend to be knee deep in plastics at the san antono show in may

  5. Bill Lango says:

Great article. Nice to see such enthusiasm.

  6. Wayne W says:

I love digging through the loose figures tubs; just have to control myself sometimes when folks come in and try to elbow you away. I had one guy at San Antonio a couple years back actually stick his head between me and some figures I was looking at. I gritted my teeth and then said, “You really ought to do something about your dandruff…”

  7. Bill Nevins says:

I remember when Tommy Hill first appeared at Hackensack. Not as many tubs as the gentlemen here, but man he had a ton of figures in those large storage tubs.

Not nearly as much as this guy, but Tommy had the most I have ever seen.

Ed Watts had the most Marx figures I have ever seen in one place. He had them in brown paper leaf bags. I remember seeing you (Paul) filling up a huge sack at the original Marx Meet in NJ. I also remember seeing how much he charged you. But that’s our secret.

  8. Markus says:

Just a short note on Timpo in Germany.
Think the common figures like cowboys, indians and 7th cavalry are still reasonable priced. On ebay and for at shows with many collectors selling their extra items. Boxed sets are getting harder to find and color variations can go really obscure high. Same as other figure collectibles. Paying the price is a combination of personal interest and available budget. For me a nice to have but of course usually far beyond the thought of spending money for fun and hobby (plus real bank account situation). At least postage for small boxes from Germany to US is very much acceptable.
Travel expense to post office is real fun. Use of shoe soles included????
Wasn’t it Paul Simon rhymin’ Diamonds on the soles of her shoes? Seems to be the ebay version.

  9. Mark McNamara says:

Looks like an AWESOME show !

    • admin says:

It is Laurie and I have enjoyed the show each time we went. Added bonus we see old friends and enjoy great food. If you are beer drinker you get the beer without the chemicals. (We are not so in germany we enjoy the wine and UK the the hard cider.)
The European shows are great to do as you get away from our shows which are so heavy with Marx. Nothing wrong with that, but I like to see different figures.

  10. Looks like a nice show, maybe one day when I retire I will take a trip over there. Those Viking ships are not Conte, but are made by Kreza Modellbau. I just did post about them, after I got some of the oarsmen. https://warhorseminiatures.com/2017/03/27/toy-soldier-review-kreza-modellbau-vikings/

    • admin says:

Mike thanks for the correction. Yes it is a wonderful show Laurie and I have had great times there. What I like on the European shows is seeing something new. The best to start you travel is PW as theyspeak our language. It is easy to get to via the underground and rail in London. Germany you will need a car to get to the show unless you have a friend to pick you up. We have done a car from Franfurt. For us we have made many friends so it is a great time.

      • Wayne W says:

I graduated high school in Frankfurt – love that town; spent another three years in Hanau – not far from there. Boy, going over there for a toy soldier show would be the ultimate trip “home…”

  11. Markus says:

ICE fast train from Frankfurt International 2h15mins to Bochum Central. Underground from Bochum Central to Herne 15mins. Walk from underground station to showplace 2 mins. Should be an easy trip :-). Not only German beer is worth the trip over.
