Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff we have contributions from several readers. First up we have two conversions by Mike Mullins. Both our readers I think will enjoy. Next George Albany has sent us some photos of the Alamo Diorama at the Alamo. Erwin Sell spotted in his local Target Zelda figure in 1/32 scale. Peter Evans has sent a photo of several propose knights for the Timpo Battle Masters series that were not made. Markus Lecksheid has sent some photos of the Dom line and Jean 54mm figures. I will follow up with some odds and ends.
Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff Mike Mullins
Mike Mullins is another person who likes to do conversions. The first one we have is of Festus of Gunsmoke. He was layed on the show by Ken Curtis. Interestingly there is a statue of Ken as Festus in Clovis, California.
I think Mike has capture the essence of Festus.
The other conversion Mike sent us is of Dr Syn or Scarecow. The books were done by Russell Thorndyke. Disney did an adaption which had Patrick McGoohan in the lead.
Mike has done a great job of catching the feel of the show.
Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff George Albany
George Albany’s son took a trip to Texas, Louisana and Arizonia. One of the stops was at the Alamo. At the Alamo they have diorama of the battle. George thought you would like to see it.
Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff Erwin Sell
Erwin spotted this at Target. It is 1/32 scale figure for Zelda.
Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff Peter Evans
Peter Evans sent us this photo of three Medieval figures he did. Peter had scuplted for them for Toyways/ Timpo. He done for them the foot and mounted knights of their Battle Master series. He did some additional foot figures for them, but they were not used. This is three of the six proposed figures. Peter did them in resin. Sadly they did not go beyond this stage.
Readers Contributions Odds Ends Other Stuff Markus Lecksheid
Markus has sent us some photos of the Dom plastic figures and the Jean “Margine” figures.
The first photo shows the eight medieval castle figures. Going from left to right we have Ivanhoe, Herald blowing trumpet, servant carrying bucket, page, Lady in waiting, jester, Robin Hood and falconer. These figures would be great in any 60mm figure set up.
Here is more of Dom Oriental series. The poses are British lord, Arab in rich dress, Kara Ben Nemal and belly dancer. Like I mention in the previous article the belly dancer would not be made today.
Markus did a comparsion of the 60mm Jean cowboy with the 54mm Jean figure. As it has been mention the cowboys and the Indians are possible margarine figures. Margarine figures were done in Europe. They were flat figures.
Here we have the Jean Indians

Going through a junk bag I picked up I saw a yellow sailfish. I thought great MPC sea cresture in a different color. When I got a closer inspection I discovered it was flat! so where is it from a game?
The East Coast Toy soldier Show has it date for this year. It will be October 29 at its usual location. We will have on this in the near future.
Armies in Plastic has shown in some other dollar stores. I had a friend get me a few samples. They are are great buy if you can use them. The foot figure bags have five different figures in them. Mounted bag has just one. I got a couple of bags with some figures I did not have in the collection.
Ken Curtis was much more than just Festus. He briefly replaced Frank Sinatra with the Tommy Dorsey band until replaced in turn by Dick Haymes, played a singing cowboy in the movies during the mid 40s, then became the lead singer of the Sons of the Pioneers in 1949. As the son in law of Ford, Ken Curtis appeared in several John Wayne movies, notably as the regimental singers’ soloist in Rio Grande, and as accordion playing pub singer Dermot Fahey in The Quiet Man. He produced 2 horror movies, The Giant Gila Monster, and The Killer Shrews in the late 50s, starring in the Killer Shrews. He played a number of roles in TV shows such as Have Gun Will Travel, Perry Mason, and Death Valley Days before signing on to Gunsmoke, where he teamed up with 2 other horror movie stars, James Arness and Glenn Strange. Earlier in that series, Ken Curtis also played the role of a cattle drover suspected of murder.
For work I am occasionally in Fresno, near Clovis. I’ll have to look for that Ken Curtis statue when I’m there.
Nice job there, Mike.
Some really nice figures here, I especially like the 8 German made Medieval figures, Something different and Great for making a Medieval scene. Its a shame the other Timpo Knights were not produced as they look very cool. Thanks for putting these pictures up.
the Alamo display is mostly king and country figures,,at the shop that is,,,The Marx female figure set Louis wanted would definatly not be made today
I do not know where to post this but today before getting to work i bought this set on my local ONLY LEFT now family owned dollar store that often carry items from China not regularly sold at large brand stores retailer around. Not all sold are dollar included these set ..
I know the indians sets had been around x some years and are in my opinion nice new poses designed with minor similarities hybrid possible derived from other brandss. Now the set i pick up has something that brought my attention and I immediately google it x reference finding a sample link easy and fast to post.I do not know if it been brought the attention here but though share with you guys.
I ve previews sets of these indians and none come with it.
Notice the set has a death wood typical indian tomb made of nice wood replica style in molded plastic.

Best ….
I really like that funeral scaffold. The figures are passable, and you also get a Marx clone totem pole, a Britains clone Teepee and a BMC clone cookfire along with a giant marijuana tree, but the scaffold is great, something I have never seen in toy form before.
However for $12.88 for the whole batch, I’d rather build one from twigs. Sometimes those accessories from the Chinese playsets are sold individually on eBay. I just got 6 extra BMC teepees to expand my village, so I think I will watch out for some scaffolds. Thanks, Erwin!
This seller has x that price u may find cheaper I bough all in bag x 3.00 locally in a hook where has mix bags.I notice one w mounted indians bag did not carry it.
The rest I got from past but not that piece included.Never seen before.

If you search “Indian Tribes Model” on eBay you come up with lots of listings for this set as low as 3 dollars and change including shipping. I guess it’s worth it for the accessories. However, I think I will be removing the giant marijuana leaves and using the trees for winter scenes or dead trees.
Hey i can take those giant marijuana trees and use x my prehistoric scenes!!!!
That gives new meaning to the term “Stone Age”, Erwin!
LOL,LOL!!!!
Around two years ago, Dollar General had carded sets with a couple of those figures and an accessory or two for roughly $2. None of them had the burial platform. Around here independent dollar stores have mostly disappeared, leaving us dependent on the big chain stores’ stock. I used to find all kinds of fun stuff at mom and pop dollar stores.
But what a deal for all that Marijuana, m-a-a-n! That set must have a street value of about $20! I agree. The figures are good, but odd poses. The accessories are interesting, but I’m satisfied with my mix of Marx and BMC stuff. I hope they do other sets that may produce something more in line with what I can use.
Same brand did cowboys poses sets. Some varied derivades from Supreme brand sold set from 90s.
The western cowboy accesories are nice.
The carriage not wagon is nice.the stagecotach is not good..
My thought s
Old fenga doesn’t seem to know what the “Ladder Hut” is eh.
For what it is worth, I dug up the figures from that Dollar General card – it was the male Indian with black pants holding an ax, the lady Indian holding an ax, the teepee and the totem pole. I also bought a card with a couple of mounted cowboys – very similar I think to the cowboys in sets sold at Tuesday Morning last year. I was sufficiently underwhelmed that I only bought one card of each. The funeral platform “Ladder Hut” might have made the set more attractive!
Talking about marijuana trees, well not quite …I thought they were plants not bush or trees ..
Any how..
I have these x long but do not know if you western guys fans need or seen then.
Well not only western.I mean cactus are from other places but of course are the symbol of dry western scenes in classic way.
If check others seller there over a dozen variation.
I only have 5 different sets that my brother(train fan) give me in swap for some of my western figures and houses.
