Germany Plastic Figures Dom Others

Germany Plastic  Figures Dom Others we look at some figures from Germany. We will start of with Dom. This company made surprise bags in Gemany. These are similar to the Cracker Jack candy in the United States.  Working with Manurba, Dom made a series of different figures.  We will show some other company figures including a 54mm Jean cowboy.

Germany Plastic Figures Dom Others As we mention Dom Plastic did a wide series of very good plastic figures. These figures were done by Manurba who Dom had a very good working relationship.  The first selection is two 60mm medieval figures. the series had eight different figures. My favorite figure in this series is the falconer Here we have  a lady in waiting waving and a prince with sword and shield. The prince could be used a Sir Lancelot.

In the second photo we have two of the Oriental figures.  These are based on the Karl May stories The figure on the left is slave master with a whip in his right hand. The othe figure is Schut holding a dagger.  The slave master would not be made today. The figures are 60mm. The series had six figures. The hardest to find is the Belly dancer. She would be another figure that would be made today.  We have the Belly dancer that Peter Bergner gave Laurie years ago and at moment it is hiding.

Our final photo of Dom is two circus figures.  When we were over in Germany many years ago we notice a number small circus.  Dom did twelve different figures  plus accessories and animals.  The two figures we have are a sword swallower and a fakir. The  sword swallower should have separate sword which is always missing.  Dom did two different fakirs. The other one is in robe.

Here we have two 54mm Plasty swoppet style figures. The figure on the left is from my purchase of two large plastic bags. At one of the  first Germany plastic shows we attended this big bag of parts. that night in the hotel we put figures together and later sold them on our list. the figure is a combination of  Mexican  body with cowboy legs and head. The figure on the right is one of the civilan western figures. I saw they were sold with cane or with a weapon.

The figure is one of the Marolin knights. He is 60mm. The clown in the middle I do not know who made him. The figure on the right is Jean army. I like them better than the western as they are more realistic.

Germany Plastic Figures Dom Others

Our final photo has two mysteries. The first is the figure on the left. He is 54mm and the way the writing on the bottom he could be a Jean. The army figure on the left I am not sure if he was made in germany Do you know him?

The blue cowboy dropping the gun certainly looks like the Jean sculpting style. Jean figures are among my favorites, because they were among the first figures I received as a child. In all my years of hunting for and buying Jean western figures I have never seen this one. As far as I know, the entire range of foot Jean cowboy poses can be seen on Kent Sprecher’s site, and this cowboy is not among them. But everything about him says Jean Hoefler to me. The face, the clothing, the gunbelt and holster… The only difference is that Jean cowboys and Indians always have a little rock or plant in the middle of the base while he does not.

The more early semiflat Jean series cowboys are 6 cowboys and 6 Indians poses as far my collection has, but I do not know if more poses were done. I had bough then in full set format and are verily alike, hunter and forest figures made too Second series(more common) poses suppose to be 30 poses cowboys/trappers and 30 poses Indians plus 4 poses horses and accessories .Some were never reissued in 90s.
Hong Kong early good copies of second series western cover many poses but not al, they are well 54 mm versus the original Germans in 60 mm.
      Best…

      • erwin says:

I forgot add Jean Hoefler did some Indians and cowboys foot poses least in the 13 mm scale-BIG and are market bellow as Jean Hoefler-BIG …..

        • Mark T. says:

Erwin, that is very interesting news to me. I had no idea Jean did an earlier line of western figures. I am very familiar with the second series and knew about the larger size release as well, but the early semi-flat series is entirely new to me. I have never seen them online on eBay or anywhere else.

Do you have any pictures of the early series? Thanks very much for this information.

          • erwin says:

Mark send me and email and I reply with pics later when i’m back from work
So far the 6 poses cowboys and 6 poses indians are in a more semiflat format as LIDO figures are pretty much. If they were intended as Margarine figures or not is up to Germans collectors such Markus Or Dittman to confirm. They could had well be sold as that as Peter says
I had check the two blogs sites about German and Austrian margarine figure and or surprise figures and not see then listed as so.
So far I got my 12 figures in set sold as that, loose from a seller who indicate brands and from what years, seller is from Germany and selling x over 20 yeas figures .
I had seen often sold individual in German sites and eBay as well
They are not marked but definitely attributed to Jean Hoefler
They did a hunter and others figures plus animals early in 60s as same semi flat style as well.

Those DOM figures are nice sculpts. I would like to know more about the company.

    • erwin says:

Great collector and very well know in hobby from Germany Andreas Dittman made a Dom,Manurba and others black and white small catalog check list with most figures plus history, not hard to find around still …
Some later finds and update had not been added but pretty much are awesome source of information for any body.
Most Dom and Manurba are easy find abroad and not that costly.
      My thoughts…
      best..

    • Andy says:

      • erwin says:

That is a good sample ,still the range of poses made are much more, in western and others as well…Most there(Kent site) were the last reissued still on sale around from 90s
Animals ,accessories are too a lot more.
        best

The Dom Knight with Shield and Sword is meant to be Ivanhoe – The Flacon crest is the same as the Starlux and Reamsa versions.
I have several of the Jean semi round wild west. I was told by a German collector (unfortunately I have forgotten his name) that they were made as free gifts with tubs of margarine – hence the flattened appearance to fit in the packaging. If they were made as a commission by the food company that may be why there is no brand mark.
The green clown is a Spanish cheap knock off of a Pech circus figure.

    • admin says:

I used prince as that is what Andreas listed in booklet. I forgot about Ivanhoe as I was writing this last night.

  4. Darren Hatley says:

Really Nice Medieval figures, I haven’t seen those before. I would really like to see the other Medieval figures from this company, And perhaps own them one day.

    • erwin says:

Darren the MAROLIN figures are pretty much 70 mm .I will do in few days compere pic x you if like so you see then .
Any how ,any one interested in MAROLIN could buy then direct cheap and fully painted.
      Marolin is still in business.
All do most old toy figures are not made and only nativity, they still sale all full last set knight poses and animals plus dinosaurs.
The animals from Marolin are very well in scale with all 60 mm figures easy. I only have few animals as most MAOROLIN I got are soldiers/knights and two dinosaurs.
      Here is the link.
Please note that web site has a rare hours of operation and only open at some German daylight hours versus us. During not operational hours it will appear as off line .
You can buy from then using PayPal, amazon card or else

    With respect please.

The clown is by Jecasan brand figure # JC08,it is not a cheap copy but later 80s reissued by PUCHOL INDUSTRIAS sold in bags mix colors who owned molds till 2012 exactly. Original were painted
Jecsan circus sets were made in late 60s.
The Jean Hoefler-W G soldier next to him is 54/56mm approx and Marolin knights are close to 70 mm easy .Jecasan pose should be around 60 mm approx
Jecsan Circus has 3 clowns and other 13 human poses included gymnast ad acrobats.
plus 24 poses animal in circus poses.
    Best regards..

  6. erwin says:

The so call DOM first poses medieval so far I had found been listed more under Heinerle -Manurba and Dom Plast brand.
The set consist as far I got and see of 8 poses included Robin Hood ,herald, children ,falconer ,lady, servant , troubadour and Ivanhoe poses.
Figures price range from 15.00 to 30.00 USD each at today market approx.
    Best….

    • admin says:

I used the short version Dom as it was what I used when I sold them. The figures are more in demand that when Laurie and I went to germany 20 plus years ago.

      • erwin says:

I use Dom too all time.
I just trying to figure out as even in Dittman works some figures appear to be sold by one or another, so not very clear who did what.
Now in a 1974 catalog I have from Heinerle the medieval appear as part of that brand, even showing in front cover on castle made by Heinerle too.
So I guess some one from Germany need clear who was real maker .
        You lucky get then there
I think with time they will be more high,
.The DOM-Manuba heavy 16 poses knights were reissued in late 90s and earl 2000 ,very easy to get today.
These court /town series were not .Same for the Hirnele 8 poses foot and mounted knights ,so I bet that increase the price now too. But for some reason every time I see listed they looks so new to me ,like never played or from some old overstock pile!?
        My thoughts..

        • admin says:

When Andreas did his booklet he noted at the time Dom had the molds but the they did not have machinery to run them. How the knights got run and not the others is anyone’s guess. Because of their relationship dom and Manurba. Some of the Dom figures were also sold by Manurba. In the Manurba Booklet that Andreas did shows the 54mm knights and Karl May were sold by both companies.

          • erwin says:

yep, I red it as well ….
            But not update since ..
Yes ,both brands share a lot each other.
In Dittmam works also it state as one DOM-PLASTIC and other as DOM-HEINERLE…
So confusing if two or one with two names !!?.
But appear as two different brands with alike names. I have to read it again..
Some mold end in Mexico after 90s too ..

The Karl May are very well done series poses.
Only western series are more easy find plus being copies cloned under other brands, one from Italy.
            best..

  7. Lynn Graves says:

I have a huge collection of Dom zoo and circus animals and poses. There are a lot more than shown on the website from above. I even have a performing cat circus cage that came with the series.

  8. Markus says:

Andreas was well ahead of its time when he put together the Domplast guide.
The Domplast-Manurba-Heinerle connection is as weird as the production history of their figures over the decades. They really did huge numbers from animals to modern army figures. There is a group of collector enthusiasts trying to catalogue their whole production line. Think four catalogues are out already and hope the other(s) planned make it to the printers.
Think the modern army figure next to the cowboy in final pic could be a French Paratrooper done by some French maker. Saw those type of figures only in France or Belgium.

  9. Andy says:

I’d love to see pics of the full Dom Western line if anyone has some to send to Stad for posting.

  10. TDBarnecut says:

Does anyone have some good pics of the Dom Bison or Buffalos?

  11. erwin says:

Andy .The range as all three brands are mix is not been set in any web site till now as far I know.
Again Dittman did a great job I think as Markus say about 4 different booklets but in black and white.
There several catalogs made in color too from factory copied and sold .I have several of then that show all figures in full color from DOM,MANURBA and Heinerle as well Leyla and LINDE from Austria
Regarding Buffalos they are way under scale compere with figures, not even close to 54 mm unless far from figures.
But .The ranch western animals are in scale with figures range.
They did nice great ranch realist fencing ,ranch house as well many other things.
Between the 4 brands they cover a lot in medieval and wester, with Africa safari and the long Karl May histories series figures.
Military they did few sets ,most modern post WW2 German 1950-1960 soldiers and air force.
Pirates, sports ,space ,cars and civilian figures too…
I may forgetting others now in my heard…
    best…

    • erwin says:

      forgot..
      Arabs,Tarzan with animals,huts,cabin, teepis,cactus,tress …..
They also made some copies of Elastolin poses as well…
