These look rather splendid. Perhaps Roman would be good enough to ask Maria if the makers would like their figures reviewed in the UK hobby magazines Toy Soldier Collector? If so, all she needs to do is get in touch with me by email so that we can arrange it.

(As an aside, Paul, I frequently sing the praises of your Blog and use the information about new figures, with proper acknowledgement, to alert our readers to them. This has become ‘the place to go’ for plastic figure news thanks to your efforts.)

  2. Wayne W says:

Some really great figures! This is exciting news as the Great War is too often neglected in the broader scheme of things.

  3. ed borris says:

Any idea what the scale would be on these figures? Excellent sculpting with good animation. Weapons look slightly strange to me, but can’t put my finger on why.

  4. erwin says:

I like it a bit better ,still figures body and weapon looks a bit funny bulky to my like.
    Not my set…
AIP cover extensively WW1 in best possible way I think, too bad never mask armies or winter as always most maker tend to forget winter campaing.Even in the field armies use long coats from mid fall to early spring a lot.
Also machine gun sets and artillery(the main heavy weapons of WW1) were let neglected.
I guess too late now x AIP.

Emhart start but with bad plastic and very small ,not match with AIP

Waterloo- did one set WW1 Italian recently .

Rest are all old brands but I think enough and abundant in many like DULCOP,CO-MA,CANE,Nardi(Only Italian poses) and Marx WW1 Americans.(odd short poses set by the way)
Charben Indians and some Cherilea could be use too. Charben were reissued.
The Marx WOW French and Germans have nice descent poses in action.
I suggest it to be cloned ,hope they doo.But again not quite in match with AIP but could pass if not next too..
There are some hard to get but not impossible WW1 soldiers and sets like Crescent with mounted nice poses too ,Mokarex and some French firm too.

Reamsa Turks are nice but no ANZAC or British and Indians x then in scale .I’m wonder if some EXF could be converted used in simple way for it.

Reisler did few American poses too.

I had used some copies of BETO/BERGEN as WW1 GI’s too to match the MARX WOW vintage in my collection.

Some of the Germans WW2 MARX WOW poses could be use as late WW1 Germans as uniform depicted by Marx have some errors and helmets in some not well done.

    I may forgot some x now….
Still Russian armies is true only AIP did the set and the hats not proper well done.
and Russian fought more the largest and main maneuver – non trench battles of the war with Germany and Austrian/Hungarian empire .Interesting battles contrary to most western/Italy front almost all time trench/static battles that too me are very boring and silly.

In general WW-One has been covered ,but I think the WW2 and other wars had more film/movies cover and because of it more toy soldier factory targeted in past and now more WW2-Modern or western else than the great war.
The fact that US only fought last 10 month of the war may had reduce interest too ,specially in US toy soldiers makers from 50s till now.
    my thought
    best..

Also the Engineer Bassevitch Russian Civil War figures for the most part can be used for WW1.

Sorry for the triple posting my Iphone acted up.

    • erwin says:

      Yes, You right Tom.
All of those sets could be well use for it as well, good though and nail it.!!

As some have winter clothing in those sets too I think..
I complete skip off then out my head, I was thinking backward all time…
Now wee need Austrian /empire. One easy make could be using AK/German WW2 heads to do Austrian-Hungarian and their forces. The hat used was from where the alpine -later AK/M41 field hat was derivate too. The visor need be trimmed a bit I think.
Bodies could be from early Germans or even others .
With these figures I see few thing personally I do not like, their body looks like either too fat or bulky. If next to even another 60 mm you can see the head and hands are huge ,so a very out match there.
In detail is deep, but accuracy the soldiers are over pack to be field action ready, I think this one is carrying all the kitchen with him.
The infantry nagant rifle was much longer and less bulky.
      My thoughts…
      best…

  9. Christian Aldo says:

    The sculpts are fantastically realistic,
I would hate to see the running figure ruined by his cartoon face.

    • Mark T. says:

He does look a bit cartoony, but to be fair, I think I read in the other Urfin Jus thread that these figures are based on a Russian children’s WW1 story. Not sure if it was a book or a comic book or a movie or tv show, but that would explain the cartoonish features.

  10. Bill Nevins says:

I am a fan of good sculpting, no matter what period.
    These are not that.

Take a good look at that bedroll.
Good for a King sized bed!!

Not my cup of tea, but if they are your’s, then buy them.
