Atlantic Western Box Mystery Bill Nevins we have an interesting mystery on what were the two Atlantic Box that were never made. Bill Nevins discovered this going through an old Atlantic Catalog. We put our intrepid investigator Erwin Sell on it to see if he could come up with an answer. What he discovered is very interesting.
Atlantic Western Box Mystery Bill Nevins Atlantic Catalog
You can see on the second page of the western sets that there are two blank boxes. My speculation is that 2 additional sets were planned to go in those spaces, but never made it in.
The last set shown is number 1214 Outlaws and Sheriffs.
On the third page we see numbers 1217 Oregon Trail and 1218 Gattling Gun.
So, it only makes sense that the two blank spaces were to be numbered 1215 and 1216.
So what were those sets going to be?
Set number 1215 is named “The Cowboys” There is a picture of the box and contents on the Atlantic fan site. So that proves that they exist.
But what about 1216?
Any guesses?

Before we get to Erwin’s response Bill sent us the above photo
The last pic is the 60 mm 7 th cav from the 6 inch figures. I painted them kight blue and converted another. These figures if they are white hard plastic are from Cofalu. (Note I may have the name wrong as that I was told originally.)
Atlantic Western Box Mystery Bill Nevins Erwin’s response
As mention in the beginning I turn to Erwin as he has been active the Italian figure blogs to find out the answer. Here is his response
As I stated in Stads forum responding to Bill question.

Here is the list and clarification for the 2016(never done) Few test samples provided to stores as promotion “apparently”?.

Notice also that at the top of the catalog pages it says ” 1/32 “.
The only set with the red line through it, is the 7 th Cavalry Mounted set.
Erwin can you find out why that was? Damaged molds or some mishap?
Interesting, Bill! Even the catalog from the company mislabels the sets as 1/32; I guess resulting in the later boxes mislabeled 1/32 after the original boxes were 60mm. It reiterates what you had commented earlier, 1/32 could be a range of things and if you want to use figures together, you have to set the figures side by side in reality or live with/get tuck with the differences.
I appreciate more and more the comparison photos of figures provided on the StadsStuff forum. Thanks also for the info and research, admin, Bill and Erwin.
It is also a little bit funny to see the “Shout out” town “corral!” I can picture modern day Earps and Clantons on social media doing shout outs to their fans/fanboys! Maybe less bloody but maybe not?
Speaking of social media, I see that Erwin’s buddy has another 5,000 word blog entry disparaging admin and him. The name calling and pettiness is certainly uncalled for.
I didn’t go over there to read it, but was checking out his pirate images and posts, had to refresh and there was the 12/30 post.
Bill.That is the export catalog.
They edit one every year till 1985 I think.
About question.
Find out what?
Sorry I got lost. ….
Why the 7 th Cavalry set is no longer available in my catalog?
Ok …
Bill I do not know if that is answer I can ger correct.
Above data is from one book published.
Those red mark in you catalog sale distribution looks like out stock sets mark to me x some reason.
I will send pic and question to blogs any how.
Best…
I have all three of the 500 series sets plus the 1215 Cowboys.
TSHQ has a pretty comprehensive set of pictures on Atlantic sets that is worth clicking on this link to see:

Hi,
have a box 1215 Cow-Boys with contents.
Back of box mentions at eerie LEGENDE DEL WEST set 1216 Confederate Army.
A set I have yet to see if ever released.
Can send pics of box and contents of 1215 later this weekend if interested
Please do so as people wopuld be interested.
Thanks Markus.
That will save my search I was planning …
I like the set as unique with cow boys poses and cows ,nice riding poses.
I lost most cases of Atlantic long ago when transferring to big storage and let all figures off to big box all mix IN large western case with other brands, now I can not find any but ancients and some WW2 boxes,I regret it.
I have the confederate set grey version in one picture in book but not number given, so apparently it was another option or else!?.Will like see that box of yours.
The info above is extracted from book Soldatini Atlantic-By Salvatori Milaglia.
Second volume .
The bad part is all in Italian and have to photo to translate pages.
Also some one mention in a blog that the buildings x big scale were actually made , but never found any about this in the two books.
There is other PDF simple catalog/book complete version of most production.
But it is not quite that accurate as is just a compendium of all commercial catalog found by author.
In the SCF sets I found out the space ships for big figures are the last made by Atlantic and today considered the of big value among collectors.
BEST regards..
Pretty much you guys may see all sets x now till set #2015 here in this simple site.

There is a calf included in the HO scale boxes that does not appear in the 60MM ones.
Yes no all from HO was done in Big scales. Most WW 2 sets have a pose or two not included in big too. This had happen with other brands such Airfix and Matchbox HO series versus big scale
