Bill Nevins Alamo and Western conversions, Bill is back with some more of his conversions. First up is a interesting Alamo scenario that Bill wanted for his scene. Then we have a number of his cavalry and western conversions.
Bill Nevins Alamo and Western conversions Alamo
We will let Bill tell you about this two figure set up .
The TSSD Alamo defender that holding the rock over his head is okay for one figure. But how many can you really use? I decided to see what I could come up with by converting him into a different pose. First, I chopped off both his arms at the shoulder joints. Next, I cut his foot off the front of the base. I used the hot water method to force him into a falling position.
Next I replaced the arms with the Conte Iron Brigade wounded poses’ arms.
I cut the original musket away and replaced it with a TSSD spare gun.
My idea was to portray a defender being lanced by a Mexican soldier. I used the TSSD foot Mexican with the flintlock in his hand and cut that arm off. Next I replaced it with a mounted Mexicans arm from the TSSD mounted set. It had a nice long lance and was just what I was looking for.
I cut the point of the lance off and saved it. Then I lined up the lance and drilled a hole right through the Texan. I stuck the tip of the lance in the Texans chest and glued it. The shaft of the lance fits nicely into the hole in the back of the poor Texan.
I painted the Texan a desert tan color and that’s it.

Bill Nevins Alamo and Western conversions Summer find
Bill happened to pick up a cream horse and a dark gray rider this summer at his flea market. Both in the same day from different sources.
Those Cav figures are great! The poses look so much more alive and natural. What a find on the fallen horse and rider deal, too. The new year is starting off right for you.
I like the work in lancer and victim. Awesome ,like all rest too of course.
I like the kneeling shooting a rifle pose on the legs of the bareheaded guy with a sword.
Did you replace the swords? The figures look really good.
I would guess he didn’t as they look like re-casts and the re-casts always come with good swords unlike many of the vintage figures who had short swords.
well done,,agreed about the rock guy
Yes, they are the old recasts that Stengel had.
I did these a long long time ago, but I never got around to finishing them.
For the life of me, I cannot recall which glue I used.
Looks like that Texican tried to escape over the palisade but didn’t get far. Great reworking of the figures!
I also like the cavalryman with rifle side stepping while shooting. He looks like an Indian came up from the side.
Amazing poses!
It’s a slightly different version than the Conte pose , except the Mexican is on foot instead of horseback. That and it’s plastic rather than metal.
Once again, I’m like a kid looking through the window at SEARs at the goodies on display.
Ed, Right. I took the idea from the Conte metal poses.
I wanted to see how a foot version would look.
I’ve got a lot of Texan conversions that are painted.
I should take some pix of those.
That made for a very unique pose for the Mexican lancer I had forgotten about the Conte pose. The Texican being run through is such a great action pose. I really like the arms up in the air positioning. Desert tan is a good looking solid color. The tan and rust colors are my favorite for Texican/Western figures. the details show well and make me think of the old Southwest.
I’d love to see your painted figures whenever you and Admin can get to those!
Yeah one of these days I have to get pictures of some of my latest conversions, I got another 100 or so done. Lots of casualties.
