Stad’s and Other People’s Finds December 2016

Stad’s and Other People’s Finds December 2016 we are back with some of the finds of myself and other people. I have some interesting items I have  acquire from two recent toy soldier shows. then we have  from our very good friend Andreas Dittmann has a Davy Crockett Game.  Richer Fisher clues us in on a Hallmark ornament of Batman that you could use as figure.

Stad’s and Other People’s Finds December 2016  Stad’s Finds

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016 At the Maryland Toy show Laurie I found these three interesting figures. The figure on the left is Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars. The figure is 54mm. I do not know if this is a cake topper or from a chess game.  The middle figure is Puss and Boots. It is a generic adaptation of instead of the Dreamworks version.  The figure on the right is a Mokarex figure. It is part of their French Province weries. I feel this figure could be used a a civilan in your western series.

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016 The other figures I got for myself at Maryland were four Mattell He-Man figures.  these figures were done in 2002 and are 60mm. I like the figure of Orko the most.  For some reason they stylize Skelator and He-Man.

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016

From the York Toy Show I got the cow and the Lone Star British Naval Officer.  the cow is for Laurie’s collection. She collected cows before I met here. I add some to the collection from time to time.  The Lone Star Naval officer has a movable arm whih I do not remember off hand. I wait to hear from our English readers if this is correct or not.

Stad’s and Other People’s Finds December 2016  Andreas’ Find

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016 Our very good friend Andreas Dittmann picked up this board game from Disney Davey Crockett shows.

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016

What I feel made it interesting for Andreas were the game piece were figures. Sadly a couple of the figures are damaged.

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016 Here is a look at the game board.

Stad’s and Other People’s Finds December 2016  Rick Fisher’s Find

Stad's and Other People's Finds December 2016

Rich Fisher found this item at his local CVS Drug Store.  It is a 1/32 scale Batman. the Batman figure is packed with 12 different ornaments of Disney figures and Superman. Rich found for some reason there is only one Batman but three Superman in the mix. the figure costs $7.99 and will fit in with your other Batman figures.

I own a few of those Mattel He-Man figures of which ive converted a little as i often do to make them a bit more dynamic and pleasing to me, They stand about 60mm or slightly under and make Brilliant Fantasy figures.

    • Erwin says:

Darren I did same with two as I’m not in to cartoons charters at all.
I got Hong Kong solid colors gum machine He Man series (a lot poses) and mexican made series.
For some reason the run high priced now.
But more in to true 52/54 mm and easy to paint or converts.
      Some beast too.

  2. Erwin says:

    Nice finds.
    Intersting the game w figures.
Looks like done using premiun figures.
The batman ornament tyoe figure is part of huge collection.
I saw a large display at Kmart no long ago w star wars charters, spider man, superman and many others.
The storm troopers make nice extra add to poses.
Kmart had then last year as well.
    Best……

  3. ed borris says:

Interesting, is that David playing the guitar?

    • erwin says:

ed, good catch.I did not notice till I increase the photo when you post .
Is him been known to play the guitar or not?
I think I heard something about it before.

  4. erwin says:

I n fact I just check my local Wal mart and where the greeting card section are they have a full display of the Hallmark ornament cartoon charters figures. It has most ,included many star wars.
Palpatine if move the arms may be by Applause? .They did/sold three variation.
A tall 3″ ,another with round base and other that move arms.
I do not think is a chess piece as not tall/pedestal base bottom as most figures of chess sets are!!
It could be a board game piece too from other maker!?
    My thoughts..
    best regards…

    • Darren Hatley says:

Once again thanks for the info on those He-Man figures Erwin, Its much appreciated. Some very nice and interesting figures that I haven’t seen before. Although I have seen the pink Rubber Muscle type figures before. Yeah I see what you mean about the prices of the Gumball figures. I would like to own some of these figures in time but no rush for now, And yeah I would love to see those Mexican made figures sometime.

  5. Brian Berke says:

The Lone Star Naval Officer with the movable arm that brings his binoculars to his eyes is correct.

  6. Anth says:

I see HaT is doing a fund raiser . I like the Austrians
    http://www.hat.com/

    • Erwin says:

I believe Hat fun riser did not work and HAT suspend the sets.

      • Erwin says:

Least for one set(austrians) and they return the money.Other set just start and so far very few added by blog information.
While the 1/72 sets had done very well.
Again I do not see much enthusiasms in the 1/32 long run production any more.
        Best regards…

        • Darren Hatley says:

That’t a shame if your right Erwin, Ive got all the Ancient Hat 1/32 figures and there seemed to be many more coming up including Byzantine,Greek and Roman figures, But its been a few years now since any 54mm figures have been released by this company, So unfortunately i think you might be right and im giving up on them making anymore 1/32 figures, But i hope we are wrong.

          • Wayne W says:

HaT isn’t giving up yet; just trying to make it work. I’ve put some sets on order for both the projects as I can use them; I held off on the other set and kind of regret it as it failed before I could put my bid in – but I don’t think it would have helped anyway.

The thing is IMHO, HaT has built the majority of its customer base on 1/72 scale gamers. When they started, some of us may remember the stated purpose was to “fill gaps” in the hobby by doing sets the founder(s) wanted as kids but no one made. They did stuff that was unheard of back then like the Mamelukes and Zouaves.

They’ve expanded a lot building whole ranges largely based on feedback from their loyal customers through their forum and personal contacts with some who have developed relationships over the year. I’ve liked their choices for figures in the 1/32 scale for the most part even though my advice has been or would have been to have gone in another direction for more popular sets that would have sold more to build up their sales for the special niche sets – or perhaps even created a demand for them. Usually, I’m in the minority.

I hope the crowd-funding concept works because I’ve found the folks at HaT to be great folks who really love toy soldiers and I love their figures.

        • erwin says:

Well I had not say they had give up yet complete.
But they posted a cancelation of Austrian set of crowd-funding concept that Did not work at all and they posted that they will refund all money back to those who invested.
If you go in to the site ,you will see the blog link where they post it and show how horrible poor the investment in two 1.32 scale was funded by looking at bar scale showing money raised versus those of HO.
I do no see optimist at all. Been realistic base in what they show.
The set was Austrian Napoleonic and other British set .
They had try raise money for two others since last month. So far show very few money raised unless not correct updated.
I do not follow much of those typing or writing in blog as apparently none or those commenters did not add any money.
But I responded in disagreement as apparently many making comments did not like the sets HAT was trying run first ,so thanks to then and others may be the sets were not enough funded.

Here is link blog from HAT site direct .
          http://132hatblog.blogspot.com/

So far the.HO line still runs slow by funding only.

          • Darren Hatley says:

Hi yeah im not saying that 1/32 scale figures are finished from Hat yet, But as the Months and years tick by its surely much less likely that anymore will be made, And of course i can understand the reasons that they wont be made, I guess if there are not enough people showing an interest, Then they will be much less inclined to bother producing more figures in 1/32 scale. Its a similar situation with the Russian made Tehnolog figures, A few years ago they were producing lots of Excellent figures from many eras, Including Fantasy figures, And i brought many of them and couldn’t wait to see what they were going to come up with next, But its now been over 3 years since anymore 1/32 figures produced and so now im starting to think will they ever bring anymore out, I hope im wrong but we shall have to see.

          • Erwin says:

Darren. You are correct in the 1:32.
I think same way.Unfurtunatelly not enough blood x long run to support.
            Hat not been only stopping.
Italeri,Armahar,WATERLOO, PEGASUS too stop around 2012 as well.
Regarding Tegnolog I think is different scenario.
That company does toy for kids.
They continued releasing in the 40 mm many sets .In 2014/15 the did a lot new with two modern in 1:32.
In 2016 the release two more SF futurist modern 1:32 sets plus many robots.
They had done a big turn over in to soft plastic and add new castles and remade large playset type cases.
But the history series stop in 2014.
They base their sets in popular Rusian computer games and what are more popular in that in Russia market x kids.Because it they had not done much in the fantasy arena as they did before.
So as they are not targetting our hobby at all and specifically x the Russian children computer gaming audience I think we do not see our sets been continued much. But they are in business strong as ever.
I receive the catalog from 2016 and saw all new there. In 2015 they also release two orks and warrios new sets. I do not know if you ever got those last.

  7. Don Perkins says:

Without dragging out my Walt Disney “Davy Crockett” DVD, I’m almost positive that in that version Fess Parker played a guitar one evening at the Alamo singing “Farewell to the Mountains” — a slow piece that wasn’t very exciting, but which was supposed to depict sort of the sad, somber mood of everyone in the last few days before the final Mexican attack.

    • Don Perkins says:

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, I just googled “Davy Crockett farewell to the mountains”, and you can see the very scene and hear Davy Crockett, strumming the guitar as he sings the song. The scene depicts the musical instrument (it looks like a cross between a guitar and a banjo) as belonging to Georgie Russell, who hands it to Davy for the actual rendition.

  8. Erwin says:

Well the figures above have what appear to be Davy w guitar but also another frontiersman Davy dressed style w knife I think next to him.
Then other figure looks like a Mexican or a tejano , not a texan as have a mexica/cordovez style hats and looks like in chaparro pants. The picture do not show much detail becsuse flash glare or else .
So may be a set made base in movie Alamo too but with differet style.

  9. Carl Castoro says:

Once again, thanks guys. I discovered Mokarex figures thanks to reading this site. Went on ebay and bought a townswoman, who will be serving Union Officers, along with a woman (metal, unknown brand) serving a pie. Got her from a seller in Canada. Looking for the Marx woman with 2 buckets on shoulder pole from Pioneers set. Can anyone recommend other civilians in 54-60mm for village battle scene? Any frontier women with kids? Have the Britains Nurse and the Tavern Wench-she looks close enough. Need more civvies for refugees. Best to you all for the Holidays. Carl

  10. erwin says:

Regarding the HAT production cancelation sets and those demanding other sets. I have these personal opinion.

As adult collector and those who do game or gamer with the HO and 25-45 mm scales game range most common used today scales in war gamer. Napoleonic marching poses are a plus.

I’m thinking from the perspective in large battle formation plus for any doing Napoleonic battles, even Alamo scenes and ARW or ACW else battles.
If seen movies and specially reenactments of such era battles you may will observed that about 80% of soldiers infantry in field on battle have musket or later early rifles on shoulder at all time. It was part of battlefield drill and tactic used at all times since late XVII centuries to mid late XIX centuries
Is because of that that I’m against any one trying saying that these sets are not need or a waste to be made.
If you do a firing line or front column in firing, only two first front rows facing foe are firing and loading ,rest either with weapon at ready(against body) or in shoulder.
During slow or fast march-trots advance of line or column .The two front row will have weapons forward, rest in shoulder.
During marching to occupy position of position moving in fast steps all will have a marching TYPE pose carrying musket in shoulder .
    During retreat front field ,same.
During march to battles or off battle same.
Unless you want to do one line firing only ,then you do not need many marching.

If you think firing will do the work or advancing back trusting bayonet right back those firing are fine, think in reality what will happen with those in front if you extend forward a long musket with long bayonet .The amount of casualties by accident will probably be more than those from enemy.
Funny is in HO and 35/40 mm scales seen to be not problem at all the massive sets done marching, even from early ancient periods and medieval with spears up too.
So in my opinion does criticizing the march pose just want to play action firing in non real battles or skirmish action scenes fan.

Regarding Austrian sets and those who comment ITALERI did two sets already for Napoleonic and is enough!!!
    Here is my opinion.
First ITALERI did two sets but both are from two period and neither were used in same together as hats and uniforms varied from 1795 to 1915.
Two AUSTRIA empire had the 3er largest Army by size, numbers and amount countries land in Europe owned plus very ethnic formed force with plenty of different units using a lot different colorful uniforms.
Their army consist of many German states,Hungarian,Balkans, polish,Slavs ,Italian and Swiss soldiers units.
Third. Austrian fought more larges and bloody battles again France republic and later French empire from 1795 -1814 than England,Portugal, Spain and Prussia combined.

4th.They also had the 3er largest amount of casualties in the wars after Russia and France.

So my conclusion is that we need plenty more Austrian soldiers for Napoleonic period.

From main largest superpower during the 1795-1815 wars .
English had been overwhelmed done, same x French and pretty much Prussian.
Russian had been more done presently as well by HAT,AIP,BLACK CAT and even SUNJADE made in China sets as well others.

Other countries armies only touched by Reamsa,Jecsan and Pech Hermanos in more 1.30 scale except Reamsa that are quite 54 mm should be done.
Spaniards fought a large war from 1808-1814 and cost France more than 2 coalition wars together in casualties ,more than half those casualties were done by Spaniards regular and guerrillas along ,not the British Portuguese army .You can google the ratio data casualties and see it.Before any British army could made any victory over French in Spain, it was the Spaniards along who first defeated a complete French army in the Battle of Bailen.
Spaniards along fought twice more battles from 1808-14 than al those by British and Portuguese combined in Iberia.
Wile Portuguese were uniformed supplied by England. Spanish uniform are in most of own unique design and very different than those or Portugal .So sets of these are needed as hard to made from others.
Polish units had been poorly presented and fought first along against Russia and Austria and then allied with Napoleon, Their uniforms, specially hats are very unique.
So are too the early French, and British ,Turks,Egyptians soldiers for the north Africa campaign.

Napoleonic war period war had been always very popular ,but I notice too much focus in three late armies only. English, French and Prussian from 1810-1815
Napoleonic wars are not Waterloo only !!!

This is the same issue I had seen with WW2 era sets of American ,Germans ,Japanese and British of 1942-1945 period only so over done.
Wile Russian and Italians done recently but always much less and very scarce, actually more Russian sets had been done recently by Russia brand at high price only , or even Chinese two sets than others makers. Italeri from Italy of course did 2 set thanks to increase the army.

CTS did touch the Italians only done before by Airfix or barely by Italian brands such Atlantic,CO-MA,CANE and most very hard to get. Italeri did 4 sets thankfully again.

But where are the French 1940-42,Polish 1939,Greeks 1941,Dutch 1940,Belgians 1940,early British(uniform varied a bit and not Sten SMLG used)?
What about free French ?(EXF) now making a set only.
    What about partisan?
What about more INDIAN soldiers for the war in Asia, Europe or Africa?.
    What about more Gurkha!?
What about sailors!?Many sailors fought in land coasts action/battles. Only soviet sailors had been done in action recently .
    What about AA personnel ?

WW2 did not start in December 1941 ,it had been for over two years and very bloody indeed.
By 1943 when US first fought Germans for first time ,Russian had already fought two bloody years .
Russians need more sets of figures in my opinion.

But of course the long run production and hobby are having a very hard moment in business and it had been x some time now a debate on what is going to happen.

    My thoughts.
    Best.
