Wesley Grath’s Imex Cannon Conversion we have some more background on the cannons that Wesley did in his diorama. Wesley has sent us some photos to show the changes he did to the cannons.
Wesley Grath’s Imex Cannon Conversion How He Did it
I mentioned I would share my method of enhancing the IMEX Cannons and here it is.
Photo 1 – Side view showing the Prolonge Hooks and both Pointing Rings with hand spike attached. I drill into the body of the carriage to seat the hand spike.
Photo 2 – Front view showing my Sponge Hooks. These are enormously fiddly to get in place and make them fairly even in size and shape.
Photo 3 – Side Rear view showing the Lock Chain. I mount this using cut off pin heads into pre-drilled holes. The Barrel is from Expeditionary Force in Singapore. They make Cannons a little on the small side for 54mm but the barrels are great.
Photo 4 – Top View shosing the whole shebang. Note I have not installed the Elevating Screw as yet. You’ll never guess where I get them from. I look for old Model T (or similar era) matchbox cars at thrift shops and remove the long stemmed steering wheel. I then remove the ring of the steering wheel and presto !! I have an elevating screw.
Wesley Grath’s Imex Cannon Conversion Final Thoughts
I like the work that Wesly has done on his cannons. It shows what you can do if you have the time and desire. Well done
Awesome work. Will you paint the Napoleon as well?
Yeah, it’s just having the time. Mind you, I’ve not been happy with the Brass paint I’ve been using. If anyone can advise on a good one I’d be most grateful
Try a metallic paint pen. You’ll be surprised.
Really nice work. My late father used to make all kinds of additions to his cannons including chains, drag ropes, buckets & handspikes. The little touches that make this hobby so much fun & so imaginative. Thanks for sharing.
very nice painstaking details. for the sponge hooks, have you tried cutting up small paper clips? that would give you some easy uniformity.
Never thought of that, I’ve been using a heavy gauge wire that has been difficult to cut and shape. Paper clips will be much easier I think. Thanks for the tip!
Or, you could use a thinner wire and bend it around a pencil, should give you a nice round uniform bend.
