Pvblivs Viking Set Number 3 A Preview Comparisons
Andrey also send us two photos showing a comparison of the new Pvblivs Vikings with other companies’ Vikings The first photo show the Pvblivs Viking with the Marx 60mm Viking. the Marx Vikings were first done soft plastic then part of the Warriors of the World. A Marx Viking mold ended up in Russia and was produced by various companies. the latest producer is Ark. The figures are available in the states with various dealers. Andrey used the Marx 60mm Viking with a spear to compare to the Viking with spear. They work well together.
The other comparison photo is with a Jescan reissue Viking so you would have many choices beside Pvblivs to make a Viking raiding party.

Once again Pvblivs has done a well detail and interesting set of figures. One nice thing they did not fall into the trap of doing a the helmet with the horns. there is no record of those helmets being worn. People who visit the Jorvik Viking Centre in York England Viking helmets with horns are not allowed. The Jorvik Viking Centre is closed now due the floods in 2015 and will not open until 2017.
The only question right on the Pvblivs Viking set 3 are price and if the figures are in the better please. As you may remember there was complaints about the plastic they were using. I am sure Andrey will get that information and will let us know.
Hello Stad. Nice product Publius makes. Also Engineer Basevich figures. Do you think, or have you heard if either Russian company will ever produce ACW figures? With the kind of sculpting they do, I think they would be big. Publius does 2 Plains Indians sets, so it may happen. Also, Engineer B. makes lots of Soviet soldiers but no German opponent sets. Like to see them do what TSSD did and make sets of mostly casualties. Thanks, Carl
I doubt that EB will do American Civil War as they have been staying with Russian subjects that have been look over. Pvblivs is anyone’s guess.
On PLUBIUS because they do many base in same metal cast done poses and not see ACW in metal line frpm then or most from other russian I will think not.
However they did metal Indians and western cowboys w some charcters. They did two indian sets.Last come in correct better soft plastic.
They had several WW2 German metal poses.
EB is as admin said in my opinion and I agree thay will do more Russian and communist era.But they had done ancient two sets non russian related direct history too.
My thoughts.
Best…
Nice pose. They had done another two sets before so this is third I think!?
Well plastic in Indian was fix, so lets hope they do using same plastic. Price like always top hill…
I disagree complete in Viking non horn issue as is base in one single with out horn partial helmet ever found in UK only. Another found in Norway resent show it had them. Wherever was for a war, ceremonial else it was with the remain of important lord with full armor. Painting in Denmark of time show then with horns by IX century ,as well in Icelandic, so the fact one late period Viking helmet had been found and base in it determine none ever used it during 5 centuries of least strong Viking presence is a very weak point relevance to make a fact .
Just enough one claim be posted 100 times and is taken as fact with out looking other sources.
Some times perception are taken base in one of few thinking one way, then I can said not long ship Viking ever had a dragon or snake head.(Most found had note and two are very well preserved yet historian believe they did because is in painting!?)
So why this yes and other not!?.
Viking era cover many centuries and they mix with many culture, they sure adopted and used many others armor else as they were not a united society but small bands/kingdoms often in alliance to make large invasion.
The wrong perception as to horsn may had be cumbersome in battle is wrong, there depiction in time made by Romans of Gauls using then in battle, same in samurais with fully ornate long helmets horns in action and also medieval helmets in painting at on museums.
I can go on in centuries on it as I had read about and found several (most Scandinavian) that perceive that view wrong too or not proved at all otherwise.
Interesting in not entering with horns helmet. Funny ridiculous I think.
My thoughts.
Best….
Well in the Prince Valiant movie they had horns!
Some would say movies are ‘make believe’. History may not always be depicted accurately in ‘Hollywood’, and that’s actual factual.
Actually.
Is true Hollywood and any films are most time very non accurate.
The film Viking w my town rise Kirck Douglas the viking have not horns.
Wile most other film did.
The film two characters were done in plastic by ftench toy brand.
I got both in exact film armor and helmet depicted.Beautiful figures.
And they were that way in the Prince Valiant comic strip, too. If you can’t believe Prince Valiant, who can you believe?!
Yes.The books arts were exact copied x film.
I like the movie a lot.Not the new verssion.
In the original, the final duel was very well done but the shield were made of aluminum and you can see how they get bended during action, very funny looking .
Regardless the action was very well done….
So what’s the story on the Marx viking with winged helmet? Did they have those? What is the significance of the wings?
TD Barnecut.
That s more unreaslistic, base pretty much in one saga description were warriors in winged helmets are depicted .After was painted in late medieval time and Wagnerian legends representation as well where films take the idea pretty much.
As far I know one helmet with wood and cooper type wings was found in France in XIX century but origin are for ancient Gaul era.
Again if Viking used or not is up to wherever want believe or not,
Impossible, not ,hard to do, neither ,easy to get x Viking,MAYBE or not.
All used them, of course not.
Only Valkyries are represented in Scandinavian runes with winged helmets as far archeologic reference and discovered regarding Viking era.
Who can denied few want imitate it in some way?.
Why so few iron made Viking era helmets are found !?
Is been over almost 10 centuries they despair as Viking. When they stop medieval ages emerged as more powerful ,helmets are recilcled, those found or taken were used and reused x next 4 centuries of medieval time.
Is not like Viking drop it and storage x posterity.
During following 4 centuries plus those helmets were wasted, used and changed or simple rotted/RUST in soil else.
Most medieval armor and helmet THAT ARE preserved IS because traditional conserved in castles and houses by family else, same in samurai and others metal armor .
Ancient helmets ,specially Greeks are more preserved because Bronze last much longer than iron, the iron rust Bronze do not rust but corrode still take many centuries to complete decompose and certain minerals keep then preserved much longer, that is why less roman helmets /armor and else made of iron are ever found versus ancient classic Greeks or Mycenaean era are plenty.
Metropolitan museum of art in NYC has one of larges huge hall of extremely well preserved helmets excavated from Greece and ancient Italy pre roman republican era. Any want can go there and enjoy it with great view and lights inside glass cases .Same in shields and many weapons.(Over 300 pieces ).
I like the look of horned helmets, and I wish the Vikings had really worn them, although I do think you could get in trouble wearing one if an enemy hit one of your horns and knocked your helmet awry so it covered your eyes.
MARK T.
Not to disagree with you please.
But is funny I did a thesis on it and including the viking facts too.
Base in museums archeoligist find.
Plenty armies and warriors did use it and in battle.
Depicted in era painting,wrote/described and conserved armor plus at museums.
Samurais used helmets w long horns in battle.
Early bronze Corinthians too, there two well preserved at museums and in vase painting.
Gladiators too,Trojans helmet found at excavation well.
In NYC art museum there are 4 Etruscan helmet w horns made of hollow metal ,not longer than 6 ” but present.
Is also show in battle depiction in their era founded.
Huns are descrived to use it.Mongols are painted w it in chinese painting.
Gauls are described by romans,so German Simbris tribes at battle. Two romans column s engaving show then, done in same time of wars.
So are teuthonic helmet conserved with light wood helmet at poland and germany museums.
So yes ,it was used a lot and did not affet action unless was done of too heavy part. Most were done light easy to be take off by a light blow with out issue of knoking off your helmet.
Were part of decor and intimidation culture.
About viking I did a large work on it.
Too long to be post here now and not the thematic I think.
In figures if no one like it I think it will be very easy get a nail clipper and cut them off.
It do not bother me at all.
My throughs.
Best….
When you look at the photo of the Marx Viking spearman set next to the Pvblivs spearman, the difference in detail is startling.
Vikings had a secret language – it was Norse code
LOL
I though was the north pole code !! 🙂 🙂 🙂
BEST SCULPTING IN THE BUSINESS!!
Some more WWII please?
WAFFEN SS??
Well as they cast from metal model in many, there some WWSS
done already,so they may do those some day…
Hi Erwin I love the movie The Vikings starring Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis,And ive watched it many times, But i never knew that figures were made of them. I would really like to see them. Are they plastic and in 54mm scale?
Yes.I will send u picks Darren.
All plastic .made in france.
Kirck is depicted w same face same helmet as in movie.
Wile the oposite were made as real Normans in true long mail coat and long shield.I think were first true Normans ever made after Elastolin.
The viking are nice too.
I do not know if a woman was made.
About 56 mm approx
