John Reichl Has Past Away He was 67. Today we were greeted with the sad news of the death of John Reichl. John was teacher and in education. He was a collector of our figures.
John was well known in the hobby mostly on east coast. Besides being a collector John was a dealer at local flea markets and shows. He set up at shows as far the Marx Meet in Wheeling West Virginia. Collectors would look for him as he would come up with many interesting items.
I first met John during the days of my list. Since we lived in the same area we got together and developed a friendship. We set up at various shows together. Laurie and I invited him along on trips to Germany and United Kingdom. There John got to enjoy the toy soldier shows of those countries. John also got to enjoy the food of the country. John was our official beer drinker as both Laurie and I do not drink beer. He said what was not to like the beer. It was fresh and had no chemicals.
Sadly John’s health went down in the last year. I saw him at flea market in 2015 and he looked tired. I later found out he had some health problems similar to mine. I saw him at Macungie of that year. He did not look good. I asked him if he had done any rehab. He replied that he couldn’t.
At Hackensack of that year Laurie and I got the shock of our lives. A man came up to us in a wheel chair pushed by his son. We said hello. Later we found out that it was John. We had not recognized him as he had lost at least half his weight. Talking to Mike and Noreen Russo found how that he had been misdiagnosed and he had cancer.
John went for treatments but it did not help. John had wanted to set up Macungie for one more time. Sadly that did not happen.

Sorry I do not have a photo of John as he was camera shy
Very sad to learn of John’s passing. He was a fixture at many shows on the East Coast, and had the rare ability to ferret out the rarest and scarcest pieces. I picture him in my mind, quickly moving around at shows carrying Marx Playset pieces he just purchased.
Very sorry heard it.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
I really HATE Cancer.
I hate it too, Cancer, even though I have survived for 15 years since I was diagnosed.
It’s a bummer that another one bit the dust. I didn’t know him, but it’s sad none the less.
Godspeed, John. The early collectors fraternity was a small one and almost everyone knew each other here on the East Coast. I’m saddened to hear this. John was always good to chat with and discuss the hobby.
We are less for his passing.
A great loss – don’t know which I hate worse – cancer, which took both my in-laws, or Alzheimer’s which took my mother. 67, awful young to go – too soon. Please pass on the warmest regards and condolences.
I first meet John when he cam over to London with Laurie and Paul
He was a nice guy.
The best way to be remembered is with a smile
I met John at the time Paul and Laurie came over to Germany and in London. We talked a lot about toys of course but his job working with difficult kids was very important to him too.
I will remember him as a very friendly and open minded person. Hope they will have plastic soldiers to play with, where he went to.
Rip. He was a very good friend
