Bill Nevins’ Austin Cowboy Conversions, Bill Nevins is back with some conversions of the Austin Miniatures of their first set. The cowboys were welcome additions to collectors western scenes. When I first saw them I had to have them. Bill not satisfy with these figures the way they were made some interesting changes.
Bill Nevins’ Austin Cowboy Conversions Bill’s Comments
Here are Bill’s comments:
I chopped off all of the Austin cowboys heads and re-arranged them.
Got some cool poses. I also switched arms on two of the cowboys making the crouching guy look better , I think.
Bill Nevins’ Austin Cowboy Conversions Final thoughts
Laurie likes the poses and the changes that Bill did. The changes gives you a wider range of poses for your scenes. My favorite is the change Bill did to the cowboy with a Winchester. I like the new head it gives a different feel. what are your thoughts?
I like them. Good work and thanks for sharing. Gives me the idea to buy more to convert. The Austin cowboys are clearly some of the best poses I’ve ever seen, but why not “improve” them. Bill, how’d you re-attach the heads? Krazy Glue, etc.??
I LIKE all,!!!Nice conversion. Austin cowboys are nice well done. Making conversion of then is great !!.More dynamist to the shoot out
Wow!!!! Really cool!

The crouching guy reminded me of Steve McQueen in the Mag Seven. The face kinda looks like him and that’s a McQueen pose, if I ever saw one.
I also like the sawed off shotgun guy with the Cavalry head. He has a long (uniform?) coat on and just looks like trouble. Not the first time he’s pointed that gun at someone!
The Winchester pose was the first one I did. It jumped right out at me. So you nailed that one, Paul. He just looks so much more the part with that head.
Finally, the guy in the middle of the back row, really looks just like a 54 mm Marx Cowboy. Same pose and hat.
Andy, I used Loctite Professional Strength Super Glue on these and it held tight. I can’t say for every plastic, but for this type (and TSSD too) it works better than anything I have ever tried. It’s expensive, about 9-10 bucks for a small bottle. I buy it when Michael’s has 50% off coupons and I stock up.
Pix of TSSD Cowboy conversions to follow.
Thanks, Bill. I have both Loctite & Krazy Glue. Sometimes they work & sometimes not so well, depending on plastic. I find some Marx recasts are very difficult to stick. Both glues are GUARANTEED to stick better to my FINGERS than ANY plastic!! 🙂
Supposedly the Winchester pose was supposed to be John Wayne, Clint Eastwood was a bit more obvious.
Some great stuff. I saw the TSSD conversions first so I was going to say MORE great work, but… The Winchester convert reminds me so much of Stephen Lang’s Ike Clanton in “Tombstone” (which that head has always brought to mind) – a great job.
Making superb figures even better – an artform.
I have had great success with brush on Crazy Glue. It works with all the plastic types I have tried and will even bond metal to plastic. I had tried a number of glues over the years and I have had the best results with the brush on Crazy Glue. Maybe it’s because I pin everything too, of course I can’t pin metal to plastic and it holds up. I have been very happy with it.
Will give it a try.
