Lone Star Zulus as Indians
As mention by Kent Sprecher in Comment Section of Stadsstuff, Kent found The Lone Star Zulus as Indians on a blister card. A company in Hong Kong took the Lone Star Zulus put them in gaudy or party colors and called them Indian Heroes. The blister card has the eight different poses. This set was made for DIAMOND TOYMAKERS of Skokie IL 60076 (Chicago area). It must have had a limited distribution.
Diamond Toymakers
Checking on Diamond Toymakers, I find the company was was in business from the 1960’s to the late 1980’s. The company did mostly licensed character items mainly cards. They did do a line of Arnold Schwarzenegger action figures for the movie Commando. The figures were done in several sizes three inch and 8 inch. A three inch carded figure sold for $99.00 on Ebay. The larger 8 inch figure of Arnold can easily go for $149.00 and up. I could not find any examples of their blister cards other than one Kent found.
Lone Star Zulus as Indians Thoughts
I wonder what children said when they saw this card? Did they say that is not right? It reminded me of the time in toys R US I saw the Dimensions for children’s Playset for Pork Chop Hill. The set used Airfix British 8th army figures copies as the North Koreans. There was a father standing to the right of me at the time who was looking at the playset at the same time and gave me the look are they serious.
We will have to watch for these figures. Off the card they are not worth much. On the card they would have limited interest. As our very good friend Peter Evan mentioned in his comment on the Lone Star African Natives, he has a set from Hong Kong done in brown also sold as Indians. Hopefully we will se that version in the future.
Interesting.
Now I want to see the cave man version too.
Upon close inspection of what I can see of pictures because of blister clear reflex and off fiesta color ,it has only 7 poses base in Lone Star wile one is Britain herald swapped Huron Indian pose cloned. Interesting!!.
I will think the glow/fiesta color did camouflage the original African figures well.
Any child will not realize it easy unless very familiar with Lone Star figures or others Hong Kong copies of African LS.
Parent will hardy see it well unless known about it and paid not much attention .Because some LS carry big feathers it will pass as Indians. Would they had given normal Indian colors the impression and to eyes will be more obvious I guess.
Few parents today got idea to history, Now back in 70’s the were more. So again a close look may had bring some questions…
For me is joke ,a bad taste joke.!!
Now who should be blame x it .The Chinese toy packer/maker or the American toy company that x sure knew what they were selling.
I bet if happen now it could had be a legal sue.
Interesting
These are the Hong Kong figures that were sold in the 1960s in the sets I mentioned in my previous email.
The figures were moulded in a light brown shiny plastic and quite well painted. There was also a solid figure version of the Swoppet indian kneeling with bow and a copy of the Herald Teepee / Wigwam
Obviously enterprising entrepreneur rediscovered the tooling and put them out in 1970s Day Glo colours.
One day I will hunt my originals out.
On a side note the same firm also did them as Africans in black along with the Swoppet Indian running in black plastic in the same set.
Peter
I have correct the mention of where your figures came from. Sorry for the mistake.
Well if they used the hurons bold head copies from herald as africans and not pants I can pass it more.
In fact I have a HK nice swooped.not later crude made of herald 12 poses 70s HK copies Hurons and they are dark brown.
As I played w then I often take the ponytails/trimmed hair and feathers off to make then looks as africans.
