Mexican Soldiers from Europe

Mexican soldier from Europe

We heard from our very good friend Markus Leckscheid who enjoyed the article on the Zorro hacienda done by Gilaz of France. He wanted to share this with our readers.

Mexican Soldiers from Europe

Hello Paul,
enjoyed the information on Zorro Hacienda and Gilaz as French maker unknown to me very much.
Fascinating what turns up.
Find attached some pictures of what could be the Mexican Police / Gendarmes mentioned to come with the set.
Feel free to use.
Think they used a RCMP and a Cowboy. Don’t have the ‘nonrepainted’ originals but maybe French fellow collectors know more.
Not sure about the horses but the brown color used on belts is the same as used for boots of the figures so I assume the horses could be correct. I’m not an expert on minor french makers and Acedo to me is kind of obscure.

We hope we can get more information on this small French company to share with you.

I guess that was the conclusion.
That they used RCMP and western poses .
Interesting in other poses .Nice find Markus.
But those horses looks different to me.!?

  2. Markus says:

    Yes,
the horses are for sure different form the one shown with Mexican at the ebay hacienda auction. At least the brown color of the left horse is exactly matching the brown used on both figures so I think they are authentic. Maybe if the figures had been out for sale as single items they used different horses from those included in the sets.
The maybe cooperations between the smaller French companies still remain a mystery to me.
Hope the friends from France know more.

  3. Erwin says:

In my opinion the figures definetely were generic used x any just with different paint.
So it may be that these are from another co.pany that copied.
No doubt the figures nd horses of this u show are oruginal. But from who.
Before some one from france said one mounted was copied by reamsa from Acedo
The problem is back then french and Spaniards companies copied each other and hard to tell who did what first.
Least reamsa catalog show the RCMP as 1957/8.
In this case one is cowboy pose ,horses looks type of Lido brand increse size verssion !?
Are they hard or soft plastic.?
We will see what Mathias or any other may said.

  4. Markus says:

Horses and figures are hard plastic. Saddles molded to the figures. Kind of unusual to me.

  5. Erwin says:

The saddle attached to figure is definetely not a common thing.
I had see very few figures with it.
Hard plastic sound more french style.
    Very interesting find! 🙂 🙂

  6. Mark McNamara says:

Are you sure these are men ?

  7. ed borris says:

Pretty sure they are guys, from a distance they look like chicks, but if you enlarge they look like dudes.

  8. Erwin says:

The RCMP coat and pants when mounted give a very odd appearance ,the one figure looks exact as that .Not first looking I had seen.

    Hello,
the horses are from another French manufacturer: Cyrnos. I sent Paul some pics with the Acedo horse for this Canadian mountie.
Acedo made a Mexican (we just know one).
Many french toy soldiers brand made some riders with the saddle attached to the guy (in hollow cast, lead, aluminiun and plastic).
The maybe cooperations between the smaller French companies still remain a mystery to us too but one thing is sure: except Starlux who had its own building production’s line (Plasticobois), the other companies who made castles, farms, ranchs, barracks… as La Hotte aux Jouets, Gilaz, Floch, Depreux, Clairbois…(and many others) didn’t make plastic soldiers.
This Acedo could be anterior to the Reamsa catalogue, all the plastic production (often) coming from the metal production (30’s 40’s, 50’s)…
    Best from France
