Disney Pixar GI’s Soldiers
Our very good friend Erwin Sell has done an article on the Disney Pixar GI’s Soldiers. The figures were in the movie Toy Story and were based on the Processed Plastic Soldiers that were in stores for so many years.
The set the first appear after Toy Story movie.
They were often sold in white pale bucket sets. It has about 40 soldiers. The set had two paratroopers in two different poses. The paratroopers are made of a rubber type material with small ring in helmet where parachute is attached. Once you cut it you got two more nice poses.
Rest of the figures are made of plastic a bit bright green color that 2 others.
All figures are based on original Processed Plastic. I found this set of poses more accurate in weapons and poses versus original figures in design.
The uniform and proportion of body parts are better in my opinion.
Also the M16 is better done than original Processed Plastic.
The set could be found easy at Toys R Us ,WAL MART and others.
Please do not confuse these figures with other redesigned lesser qualities name poses but more alike Processed Plastic set sold in buckets too or put inside easter basket. showed in this forum as kneeling pose.
These have to said (Toy story army guys outside) and come with license brand stamped bellow. I had seen other configuration as being sold attached to or else too in single poses. The two odd poses are exclusive from the bucket set as far I know.
I think these figures would be a nice addition to the new Viet Nam collection
This new variation is a very nice set. Shortly after the first Toy Story movie came out in 1995 I bought an official Toy Story soldier bucket at WalMart and was very disappointed to see that it was filled with the usual ugly cloned knockoffs This is the set I was hoping to get way back then.
These guys came in a Disney/Pixar Toy Story Collection “Bucket O Soldiers” modeled on Andy’s bucket of armymen in the movie. These buckets came with 72 soldiers – the two parachutists, and usually 7 each of the ten regular poses. An interesting touch was a certificate of authenticity “signed” by the movie’s director John Lasseter that was taped to the inside of the lid; this assured buyers that this was a definitive Bucket of Soldiers with certified replicas of the movie figures using digital data from the film. There actually had been buckets of soldiers marketed previously by Disney with Airfix clones, Timmee/PP clones etc. These guys were the real deal. The buckets were produced by Thinkway Toys. As Erwin points out, these really are nice plastic soldiers, made of that good old-fashioned “unbreakable” plastic. Because they are accurate replicas of the movie “toy” figures they do have touches like deliberately molded round sprue marks.
As I mentioned before these are around for some time already, the bad part is only two paratroopers poses are included out entire lot inside bucket’s they had the circle in the back left shoulder or middle upper ans Disney PIXAX stamp in bottom base. Some other bucket generic are often confused, that is why I mentioned to be careful and choose the right brand as the white cover lid do not let you see what inside. I discard long ago the license papers an all else plus cut loose all parachute of course as not interest.
A 13 Pose had been sold separated ,it is a jumping figure with M16 in one hand, it is harder to get as not around any more.
The funny part is because they are base in one of the first computer fully animated cartoons, the army soldiers design are computer 3D blue printed base from film and that made the detail better.
The weapons in general are better than original TM ,but in some a bit short.
That was my impression- at least some the 16s seem to short for any M16 but would pass for the CAR-15 or M4 the modern variant.
In some are ,but the weapon is better that too poor detail Processed Plastic in most. While observing the original Processed Plastic I notice a lot wrong not only the weapons.
Many have one arm much larger than other. The mortar pose and kneeling firing
If look well the old versus PIXAR will notice how the one arm extending forward is too long after macking the angle. You can see it better from other side figure too.
The Processed Plastic poses have some uniform missing pockets as well .The keeling firing bipod machine gun always look like a Japanese to me.
The pictures are not too clear to show it but definitely the Pixar variation won in the match.
Any how nice add on I had in storage while waiting for foes to fight.
