We are back again with another article from Billy hill looking at sources for sailing ships. We just picked up Playmobil Pirate ship. on Wednesday at a flea market.
There are many sources of sailing ships suitable for pirate raids, single ship actions, fleet actions or shore attacks. Toys R Us, Playmobil, and CTS all offer suitable items. eBay can be an inexpensive source, especially of the Playmobil ships and sometimes even of the really nice Black Pearl and Queen Anne’s Revenge playsets from Pirates of the Caribbean. The ships can all be further improved with new decks, sails, rigging, etc.
We will have up two more articles on ships from Bill. The first will be on making sails for your Playmobil ships. The second will be on making computerized decks for your MPC pirate ships. We will get them up when we get a chance.
What an impressive fleet! It must be an inspiring sight when all the ships are crewed and deployed on your floor or lawn!
I made a small sailboat for my son’s soldiers (single mast, solid hull, one sail) that carried four Timpo FFLs and several redcoats across the floor chasing some metal Timpo recast pirates and Timpo Arabs for several years. Made him a paper mache island as a hideout for the pirates and Arabs. No idea what he did with them, perhaps saving them for a future grandchild? He would certainly have loved these ships.
Great looking ships !
Billy Hill: Really great photos of great ships! I missed this article when it first came out. The Zizzle Black Pearl is my favorite! I am going to look for the Queen Anne’s Revenge; it is a very impressive ship!
Meanwhile n my private war zone: During the Revolutionary War, theBlack Pearl has beeb captured and converted to a British Frigate and has come upon two Playmobil smugglers who also act as privateers and pirates when the mood (opportunity) allows. “Sailors” from Replicants, Marx, Reamsa, Ideal, Hing Fat, and AIP are at battle with one another. The British have bottled up the Americans in a shallow cove. Due to sand bars, the British haven’t been able to follow the shallow draft American boats. A huge rock at the cove entrance is keeping the British from bring their guns to bear with any effect. It looks like an attack with long boats and boarding action is soon to come before the Americans can get ashore to escape into the forest. The boat crews prepare for action…
Billy hill, your various ship posts continue to inspire me. I went looking for the Jakks Queen Anne’s Revenge, located it on ebay, got what I considered a good price and closed the deal. So now I’ll have two ships to enjoy in the near future; the other being a Simba ship. The British add another frigate and Americans add another smuggler! Both ships are supposed to be mint in box. We shall see.
Also awaiting a shipment of gunners from Steve Weston to help man the ships! The Royal Navy is likely to be doing additional impressment and are laying in a new supply of belaying pins.
