Erwin’s Trojan Horse Playset
Our very good friend Erwin Sell sent photos of a playset he put together for the Trojan Wars. He put together various pieces from various set to make Erwin’s Trojan Horse Playset. We will let him explain the background to his playset.
Here is the Trojan horse playset I did. It is not a complete set so I used some Egyptian temples. By putting the Egyptian Temples with the Trojan Horse playset, it gave a more interesting set. I will do another posting of the Egyptian temple alone. There are two different temples which I am sure you will find interesting.
Contents of the Trojan Horse Playset
Troy playset consist of 6 wall sections and two doors gate entrances. One negative is the doors on the gate do not open. There is an nice tower assault siege machine and a battery ram. I have seen the battery ram in others playset that were made around this time. Other accessories are a one horse one chariot carriage “which is not in the photos” and four ladders. Figures from original playset were Play Mobil style figures. I figure they were trying to get into this market.
The main reason to buy the playset is for the Trojan horse The Trojan Horse will work well with 54mm and 60mm figures.
The Material is hollow light plastic. You can fit up to 12 figures inside Horse.
Some other thoughts about the pictures
I do found same company did a Viking playset and roman coliseum I will send pics too. The Figures are Atlantic, LOD enterprises, Russian made and SUNJADE 60-70 MM SCALE APROX.
The statue of Zeus is by Furuta and the two other light ceramic Asian statues were added too with Atlantic lions. All Egyptian accessories and 2 walls are part of a not completely shown Egyptian temple.
Good for you ,Erwin. Let us not forget that these are TOYS that were meant to be played with. Well done!
Yep but it’s BATTERING RAM. Powered by muscle on electricity !
Peter .The power ram has two hook bellow the roof(inside) with two ropes (cords) where the pole with ram head it is suspended, so any one(figure) should be put pushing forward to smash the door the pictures from back and inside. It do not show but I can do few more x you to see. It is a nice designed I should said-never see any with roof before and made complete sense versus not covered rams.Simba castle Playset had used it too but they add a chain instead of fabric cords. So I will said is muscle powered.

I just did a quick sample using two playset combined and set up with out proper detail. I just put some figures to give an idea, not thinking in create an actual playset. All after I mention before that the Troy horse was done
these playset were for children, but the actual building were well molded I think ,most connection looks toy but I’m sure w some paint and compound will disguise all and make more realist. Same in horse which I think is the best of all in the troy playset together with assault tower. I do not think any toy company had ever done a troy horse this big and easy with some true historical Greek design before in plastic.
The same company(chinese0 did others as I mention and will post after. Using the playmobil cloned style figures and as admin mention probably offering a cheap playmobil market sets. Soon after all despair.
I saw 2 years ago one on eBay(Egyptian temple) and end in over $100.00 because listed in the playset/toy soldiers category. I bet toy soldiers collector bid x it.
When I paid for them each playset of all type range from $19.99 to 29.99 .
Unfortunately as is very common in me I discard all original cases ,now I can’t tell who is the maker. May be admin could find the case in his basement one day.
Note: If you look well the horse resemble a bit the Atlantic 1.72 scale with out the shields ,but head looks more from an actual painting of classic Greece.

Was the company that made this set called BIG? I have a few pieces from that company, one of which is a wonderful viking ship. The figures that came with it were a Playmobile -type of figure. That sort of fits what you describe in the initial posting.

Brian .I happen to found the old nice German made Viking ship and I was surprise to find out I got the box of one with all inside, other not box.
they are huge realist x 60 mm scale easy. About 31″ long.
The name BIG do not ring my bell ,as far I remember the only BIG brand Viking ship is the German made in the 70’s ;that is 30″ long and best Viking ship ever in plastic.
Wikingerschief # 2412 .It is often named as to be sold by Jean Hoefler too.
I have it too and can show complete build with out box of course too tomorrow.
The brand change name to “Play BIG” and compete in the 70’s with playmobil.
Now I could be wrong and Chinese copied the name brand or else after.

The Egyptian temple was sold in two color and slight variation. One has more statues than other. The name was (Great adventure of lost kingdom playset).I only have two same of all tan colored version.
They are same did Roman coliseum ,troy playset and Viking I will show soon.

i bought a couple of the egyptian playsets at a grocery store a few years ago; they were clearanced after christmas. the temple is very nice. i used it for a foreign legion battle set, inspired by “march or die”. i did not know they made more, or i would have kept an eye out for them.
And the things is SOMA INTERNATIONLA LTD is a maker but also distribute others brands toys since the late 60’s ;so I can’t tell if they actually did it or from other but definitely was sold in the boxes sets from their brand.

Aggle Place was one of main ALI/EXPRESS distributor from main land China till 2012.Not toy company itself. Interesting case u have as all found searching the net come under SOMA.!!
SOMA is been making toys for many years but also distributed other brands as well ..

I got the Trojan Horse set in small store chain in Hazleton PA. The store is now gone. So maybe Aggle Place was for smaller operations that big chains.
You can google placing name SOMA first then title of playset and will see many links.
so far no body sale it any more.

Erwin – We DO think alike. I did almost the same thing. Got the Trojan Horse set and Egyptian temple for dirt cheap at a show when I started collecting Ancients. I added ramparts to the walls so defenders could fight from them. I’ve used various parts for all sorts of things. I wish I had about 20 more of those wall sections. I’ve thought about making more out of wood.
Greg. Yes I want to do add ramparts or get another set and made double deep walls with ramparts in the middle-will look more historical realistic.The need to be fix in a base too. Good idea.Bad part , this are hard to find now…
Greg.Yes by using several definitely u could do a lot.Because it was sold x small children.most had problaby end in back yard,trash or garage sales.So hard to get mow.
I hope admin post soon how look the temple if used double with few add on decor with it.Also roman arena,that I got just one.
I had not find viking ship,but found two of other vintage germans and will make a nice vikinking fleet pics x u guys.Some fun playing…:-) 🙂
I sent pics to Paul from a battle my son and I had using these items. I hope he’ll post them. I’m pretty confident the wooden versions will be at least as good and more stable. I only have one Viking longboat. I think it is from the same company, not the Jean Hoeffler version. I’d love to have about 4 of them.

Greg I got 3 playmobil Viking ships, they do not look bad at all!!Best than the roman and Egyptian they did I guess!!
Great playset, Erwin! The Trojan horse is excellent. I could see using the fort for Romans or Foreign Legion and Arabs like OI-Retread! I wonder if the walls would match with the Armies in Plastic FFL Fort Morocco? What are the outside dimensions of this playset set up?
