Marx Forbidden Planet Prototype Pieces have been found and put up for sale on Ebay. Rich Koch (Toy-Hood) has up on Ebay for auction three accessories for a Marx prototype Marx Forbidden Planet Playset. Here is what Rich said in the description on these items.
Marx Forbidden Planet Prototype Pieces
“1950s Marx Prototype Forbidden Planet Play Set Model Building and Ray Gun Weapons. Includes 3 Pieces, Figures Not Included. These are Hand Made Prototype Models that came from the Marx Modeling Room in Glendale. It is thought They were for a Forbidden Planet Play Set that Never got Made. The First Piece is a Round Building. It is 5 Inches across and 2 1/4 Inches Tall. It has Doors and Vents on the Side. Next is a Ray Gun on a Base that Swivels. 3 Inches Long, 1 3/4 Inches Tall. A Great Detailed Piece that Fits Well with the 45mm Space Figures. The Third Piece is a Gun with Seat that Pivots on Base. 4 1/4 Inches Long, 2 Inches Tall. Again Scaled to the 45mm Space Figures. All have Marx’s Invoice Numbers on Them.”
This is one more of those sets we wished Marx had made. I wonder what else Marx would have done new for the Forbidden Planet Playset? Would they have done character figures? Sadly we will can only speculate until a part list pops up like it did for the Marx proposed Jesse James playset.
Forbidden Planet came out in 1956 so it would have been easy to use the parts from the earlier Marx space set. Forbidden Planet is one of the most popular science fiction movies of all time. It was different for its time as it was an more adult movie. The story was roughly based on Shakespeare’s the Tempest. What everyone remembers from the movie is Robby the Robot voiced by Marvin Miller. Since the movie Robby has been made into various toys ranging from tin windups to full size replicas. M.S Oliver has done Robby and some of the crew done in 54mm plastic.
The Marx Forbidden Planet Prototype Pieces are right now at $299.99. Rich Koch over the years has found many exciting and rare items from Marx. I highly recommend him.
Paul, you had me scratching my head for a moment there. It was Marvin Miller, not Martin Milner. I can see Robby now: “One Adam-12, creature of the Id running amok, 10-20 Altair”. 🙂

It said they are hand made.
But if that is plastic then would be from an already mold done.
So the mold was done.
