One of my sources for items is a local garage sale. This garage sale brings together various vendors who have a wide range of items to offer. I have done very well at this show, one year I got a Marx Fairy Tale bag and other years it had been bad that I hardly bought anything.
Our local fairgrounds has the indoor garage twice a year. The better of the two is the fall show as it held in the big half of the Hall. Since it is less than a mile from the house it would be silly for me not to go. I got at the show about fifteen minutes before it opened and looked for my friends Mike Merriwines and his wife as they usually get there before me. this time they were not there. I latter saw Mike’s wife buying some Barbie Doll items with their son. She said Mike had given up going to these affairs.
The time passed quickly and I was in the door at 8:00AM. My usual procedure is to go to the back and work forward. As I was heading to back I found several bags of figures on a table. I looked them over and found on bag that had the Marx mounted pioneer on Marx cavalry horse, so I picked it up. I later discovered that it had four mounted pioneers on horse. Someone had stapled each of the riders to the horse! Also in the bag were two foot pioneer figures. There was a surprise in the bag two of last version 54mm sailors that was sold on the card with either a sub or helicopter.
I continued to back and started my view of the tables. There was plethora of items but plastic figures were only one or two figures at a table. The figures I did see where common. I did see a Britains stagecoach and it was missing most of the pieces. The dealer wanted $60.00, so I passed. Another dealer had a Marx doll house for $45.00. One other dealer had a Marx Fort Apache playset and two MPC castle. I opened lid of Marx Fort Apache and it was what I feared I would see wrong parts. In this walk around I found only a partial Airfix Costal Defense set and a Petco aquariums piece of a soldier firing rifle. I will do a photo of this last item in a few days.
I did one more swing around the tables and did not find anything until I spotted a woman with a table of dragon figures. Right in the middle was a Britains pull back dragon. the dragon had been issued when Britains had issued a series of pull back mounted knights. I flipped over the dragon and found a price of quarter so I purchased it. With that purchase I headed out and went over to the farmers market for some food before going home.
