Creative! Imaginative! A real contribution to a Marx Civil War set-up! I especially like the casualty figure holding his hand over his chest where he has just been shot.
Totally agree!
Between Bill Nevins, Maj. Liska, and Ed Borris, there’s some real talent.
I’m curious about how you glue / bond the figure parts together? You have very inexpensively created a whole new range of figures without outsourcing a single American job to China. Well Done.
Very nice Bill !my favorite is the guy running with musket over shoulder !
I can tell you how I bond mine, I use a pin, a regular straight pin like you find in shirts and brush on crazy glue. I get pretty good results and they do hold together. I pin everything, hands , heads, arms, legs you name I pin it.
My method too
I like the combo of the crawling guy and the wounded legs.
Ed, Yes, I also use pins. I don’t use superglue as it will not bond with poltpropelyene.
Loctite makes a 2 part glue especially for PolyP. I use that and I find that it hold okay. Not great but enough to survive a set up.
I’ve got tons more of these that I’ll send in later on.
Ed, you do a lot of Conte figures, right? Whatever Conte uses as his base material for figures seems to bond well with superglue gel. It’s not Polypropeleyne.
Marx figures won’t hold with regular superglue. If you can’t find the Loctite PolyP glue, I’ve had some success with GOOP, but it’s hit or miss.
Bill first awesome job and igneous ideas/poses. One in the Yank side least. Glory!!!
Now to Greg ,Bill and Ed ,do you guys use globes when placing the glue or not!?, I had try with globes but ended taken off, not like too much. So my fingers end for few days you know how!!
I do use other connectors, often very hard pieces splint of pure PVC and drill tiny holes, still glue, my idea in connecting with PVC is that the metals some times come loose inside even with glue.
Any suggestion??
thanks to all
I tried all kinds of glue, but this brush on crazy glue seems to adhere to just about anything. I’ve even glued metal to the plastic using this glue. It’s not the instant bond like regular crazy glue, but it sets up fast, I can also use it as a filler when I need to , the brush let’s me get the glue where I need it and I don’t have to worry about the drip.
For pinning I use a push pin to make the appropriate hole, then insert the straight pin using a combo pliers wire cutter, then cut off the head leaving enough of the pin sticking out to attached the other part. After I get it lined up , I use the push pin again to make the second hole, apply some brush on glue and push them together.
Another thing I use often is a lighter to heat up the blade of the Exacto to smooth out any rough edges, not too hot though, have to be careful not to melt the figure too badly, almost like the Dutko soldering iron process, but not as radical.
Thanks Ed ,the explanation is great; the Exacto heating part is awesome and new x me, will do it from now on.
Wow, you made the clubber and stabber GOOD poses now! I love the casualties and the standing firing, which I thought was already a good pose, is more animated. Just a thought for you pin users – get a thumb press drill. It’s a small manual drill that makes holes as narrow as .09 mm. It’s a lot less work, a lot more precise and not an expensive item. My glue of choice is GOOP. I have yet to be disappointed by it. It shrinks less than others, fills gaps, dries completely in a few hours, but will be set enough for you to let a pose stand and cure in just minutes.
Yeah, but the push pin keeps my hands strong for the McIver throat rip.
