We have gotten information from our very good friend Erwin Sell that confirmed the figures were used in a Lincoln Log, but the figures are not from Mexico but Hong Kong.
Erwin sent us photos which confirmed this information. The set was made in 1996 and also came with Indians. I got mix as I picked up a Lincoln Log version with the Marx 54mm cavalry about 15 years ago.
I got a set of 8 poses of the reissued Marx 60mm Town cowboys in blue way back in 2001 from Toy Soldiers of San Diego. You can see a set of more reissues in blue on The Toy Soldier Company website. http://www.toysoldierco.com/Plastic-Toy-Soldiers/Plastic-Toy-Soldiers/Unpainted-Plastic/Roy-Rogers-Cowboys/Product.aspx?ProductID=11119&DeptID=6&AssocDeptID=2#.VXmNlaOWFOQ
This set has 12 of the 14 poses, but does not have the mounted w/Lasso or the sheriff with two pistols poses or the two separate rifles. My set of eight is done in a good quality soft plastic and the light blue color really brings out the features in the poses.
You can also see a set of 8 poses from old Warriors of the World molds from the Ukraine on Kent’s Toy Soldier Headquaters page. http://www.angelfire.com/biz/toysoldierhq/Marxwestf.html
I got this set in brown from TSSD in 2002. This set is slightly different from the original Marx Town cowboy set. I don’t know if the WOW mold was different or these are very good copies.
So the reissues or copies? of the Marx 60mm Town cowboys are/were out there. I have no knowledge of reissues of the Marx 60mm Ranch cowboys however.
If the links don’t work you will have to go to the respective web sights to view the figures, for legal reasons I cannot post their pictures. This is just some more information on the topic, I hope it helps.
Hi Larry
For some reason your comment went into my spam filter. Thanks for the great information.
Recently I had seen some eBay sellers selling 8 poses sets of 60 mm cowboys(most action poses) and Indian sets in dark silver in a mix of camp and skin assortment-mix 8 poses, definitely reissues of Marx mold too and very well done.
The cowboys poses specially differ from the one sets cloned listed as Ukrainian in Kent site that look of less quality by the way. Also Viking, knights and Egyptians plus pirates 8 poses not 7 have been listed under same sellers items in either red, black, green dark silver colors. According to one seller, most are newly reissues set ,not vintage. They are not the ORION brand cases sold in Russia before.
Wonder if these are from original German Marx mold or other molds.
The Medium blue Honk Kong reissues Marx cowboys I have are very hard stiff plastic quality, size is true 60 mm but you can tell the face detail is a bit wasted in some figures. All foot poses have the HK logo, mounted not.
The beige and light yellow cowboys and green and red Indians came in one Lincoln -Halsam play set I bought and it is from the 90’s.They all have same HK stamp bellow and hard plastic too. The one horse pose come with lido reissue running horse, not Marx.
Erwin
The Egyptians and knight molds are defiantly from Hong Kong. The Vikings, Indians and Pirates, I believe were originally the molds used in Germany then they were shipped to Hong Kong.
THANKS Adm for the update!!
Hmm, never saw those before, the ones I have seen were the ones offered by ATS through e-bay, he offered 60mm Cavalry re-casts as well as 60mm Indians. He was big into European plastic and Marx re-issues. He had a four figure set that he produced , AWI figures. Funny thing is the 60mm Indians he offered were a mix between the camp and skinny Indians poses, I think the mix was 2 camp and like 6 skinny. poses.
Ed B
The Marx 60mm Cavalry were from Hong Kong. Michael Ellis of Marksman UK found them and had various sets run off including the AWI and Recoats.
Ed yes you are correct ;he still does sale some of those remaining set at his site and on eBay too.
The latest Russian Indian sets I had seen on eBay as recently reissue have a similar mix as I mention “but” in 8 poses versus ATS in 7 poses, very odd mix as originally we all knew the camp and skin poses were two separated set /molds if I’m not mistaken.!!? So very rare mix mold or a all new mold made out of choose poses from both original mold.
The Re Marx 60 mm ATS cowboys mix set(same depicted at KENT’s site as made in Ukrainian)and former ORION brand cased before too are in 7 poses versus these last in 8 poses I start seen now from Russia with a different-distribution set of poses mix . Will like to see if any one from Russian could tell us how this happen.
About the Marx Honk Kong last time I saw them was in 1999 in a bag at a Florida private party store, apparently the owner had then from a local Chinese distributor as he claim back them. Once again the HK set poses are not same distribution as Russian made ;and Russian made have two different set of poses in Indians, the one you and me just mention being sold still by ATS and other with only regular skin poses that ATS just to carry too but no longer.(also some time sold as vintage Russian/soviet era Marx/recast Indians at eBay)
I know is confusing my rare wording typing, but my quest is to figure out how they ended making a mix(Indian) set out of two and from what original Marx mold they come from!?
I will send eBay link with pictures soon to show difference as is very rare and odd plus interesting in my opinion the way they are released.
I will update myself after few research and been advise too. The cowboys and Indians sold in Russia now under ARK model are indeed from original (Charmore”
Germany) Marx molds first series according to same link from posted here on Charmore history from Denis no long ago. I will like to thanks Admin for the inputs as well .
Now the ones from HK are from who!?; if the Russian have the same poses german/charmore mold. Or they did two same molds !?
Yeah, I often wonder if they were made from the original molds and some of the mold slots were damaged or someone just selected poses and had a new mold made. I did have one 60mm cavalry riding pose that was a re-cast, but I have only seen the one. I still have some of the cavalry, Cowboys and Indians re-casts, wish I would have bought more when I had the chance. As a side note my first purchase when I got back in the hobby was a set of re-cast 60mm cavalry from Bill Nace.
ED B
The mounted cavalry figures were a hit or miss. Mostly a miss. The cavalry were the first to be sold out. When I get to the UK, I keep my eyes out for them.
The 60 mm WOW recasts made by Marxmen were sold over here by John Stengle. I have several boxes of them and the cavalry, Union and CSA have riding poses in them, although the flag has broken off every flagbearer.
I have a bag set of reproduced 60 mm Indians in various reds, blues and greens that looks like it was sold in dollar stores and 7-11’s. I rememebr buying the bag because of the 60 mm indian firing a rifle. I always loved that poses and the bag set had 3 of that pose in it. I recall that it was a header card bag and that there were trees and a wagon included. The wagon was a Timpo copy and the trees were those skinny 2 dimensional
trees that came in cheap bag sets of cowboys and indians.
Has anyone else ever seen those bagged sets?
I only have the one and I never saw them again.
Bill
I also carried the figures from Mike Ellis. There were several else that had the figures as well
Bill,
I probably have 20 of that 60mm Indian Firing a rifle, at least 10 with the stand. I probably have 150 60mm Indians and about the same amount of 60mm cavalry. Originals, not re-casts.
So Paul, do you recall that the mounted poses were included in the sets? I bought sets of 25 of 7 th Cavalry in metallic blue, WOW CSA in gray and blue and Union also in blue and gray colors. I still have the boxes, which looked like the same boxes Stone Castle was using. White mailers with a printed label on them
Did you also have reverse colors? I recall John telling me that some were test shots, but I don’t remember which. He also had soft plastic Marx HO figures from Ellis. Not just the normal stuff that you get on souvenir shops cards, but Cowboys in brown, both British and American Rev War in the correct colors and some other oddities that I have not seen since.
What happened to the molds that Ellis was using for HO?
Bill N
It has been too many years. As I mention before on the cavalry the mounted poses were a hit or miss in the bags. The mounted poses did show up in the civil war. Mike had the civil war figures done in reverse colors.. I do not remember off hand any other reverse colors.
The only thing I remember he got samples were 6 inch figures including the Communist soldier advancing and a Mexican War Mexican officer with pistol. I never saw the HO as I was not offered it for some reason. As to where the molds are who knows as many of the companies have disappeared.
I saw header bags from Mike not boxes. I have to look for an old Plastic Warrior magazine to see the list he got.
Paul, Stengle got the figures in bulk, not in bag sets. I happened to be at his home when they were delivered and I helped him sort them. John always wanted bulk because it was cheaper and he could make up his own sets to sell. John Jr was usually appointed as chief sorter. He was probably about 6 or 7 at the time. John’s daughter (can’t recall her name right now) was the bagger. She used one of those press and seal machines to make the sets. She was about 10 or 11 at that time.
Stengle and Ellis had a good relationship back then, and John had quite a few test shots or unmade figures that Ellis sent him. He also had plenty of odd colors that were never produced.
I’ve got a lot of that stuff from John. I’ll make an attempt to locate the HO MarxMen reproductions and get some pix up.
Here, IMHO, most complete history of original molds for 8 cowboy poses and 8 indian poses.

Sorry, russian language only.
Same poses from another sources, I think, are copies.
Above links were post here before by admin=Paul

The cowboys above in this old post photos are made in HK and are from another Marx mold ,not copies ‘that was left in Hong Kong not related to CHARMORE and Heimo marx mold sold to Soviet Union in 70s.
