Jim McGough of CTS has sent to us sample photos of two more of the North Korean soldiers they are doing. The first pose is a North Korean soldier kneeling firing machine gun.
The second figure is North Korean officer. Jim noted that these first sculpts.
These are just great. At Rick Berry’s Michigan Toy Soldier Company flea market last Saturday, I finally got a bag of the CTS Chinese Communists (from inside the store). They look even better in person than they do on internet photos. They are generously sized, well-rounded, well-sculpted figures, in a good high-quality soft plastic. I especially like how a CTS set has 1 each of the officer and unusual poses, but 3 each of the standard charging/firing/advancing poses. This makes for a much more balanced set than simply having the same number of every pose. Only true toy soldier collectors like the CTS partners would even think of apportioning the poses like this. Now, with these new North Koreans, CTS is making another real contribution to the world of toy soldiers. And, as the TSSD website points out, these new figures go perfectly with the U.S. Marines in TSSD’s Heavy Weapons set, who are also wearing heavy winter-type uniforms and coats.

I agree with on the mix. Yes you can do a nice force with various figures on the market.
Mix these boys up with the CTS ChiComs and selected TSSD Russians and you can do a pretty good mass attack up Pork Chop Hill with the available US troops to fight them. I am looking forward to any US troops produced in this series – with what we’ve seen so far I am sure they will be excellent.
A minor point, but one thing missing – several of the Korean War vets I spoke with when I was a kid used to talk about the guys the Chinese would send into the charge with nothing but a tin pot or kettle and a stick to beat on it with to create noise. From what I gather, the Commies didn’t have enough weapons for their troops so they used these troops to catch bullets and unnerve the GIs and Marines they were attacking – I guess they were to pick up weapons from any of their comrades when they fell. The Soviets used the same tactic sometimes.
So maybe a pose of a guy beating a pot or blowing a bugle (another tactic).
Nice looking figures. I tried to find some of the CTS Chinese at the Texas show, but had no luck.
Welcome Russ
Sorry to hear you were unable to get the CTS Chinese at the Texas Show.
Well that officer have a very mean commi face, not doubt. They look very well done ,the officer pose could well very easy convert to a carrying a heavy weapon -mortar/MG else on shoulder too if like . Any how CTS sets are very well distributed in poses as mentioned above by Don.
Thank you Sir. Good to be here with ya’ll. I’ve been lurking for awhile. I actually met Ed Borris and Mike Kutnick at last years Texas show. Very kind and entertaining Men. I was able to have a few drinks with them at last hears Friday night and was nearly pushed to my death into a horse cart by Jack Edmondson. Wink. Mike Kutnick gave me a personal tour of the delineation lines of the Alamo outside the shrine. Very informative. I was sad to see they were not there this year.
Russ
Agree a Set of Chicoms/N.Koreans should have a bugler figure,If sets are good sellers maybe CTS will do a Set#2 of different poses and include a Bugler.
Brian
I am sure is seeing yours and Wayne’s comment on the bugler.
Also need Winter parka Marines(Frozen Chosin) and Flak Jacket(Pork Chop Hill) GI’s.
Hey Russ, how have you been doing?
I don’t know where Russ is from, but surely the figures will show up very soon at the shows. TSSD carries them, and should have them at all the shows it attends, the next one probably being OTSN. But at OTSN the figures will probably be all over the place, for those who prefer to get them in person rather than ordering by mail.
Hope that any GI’s will be wearing “flak Jackets”. This was the first time of large scale use of the new flak jackets by the army and marines. I wore one in Viet Nam in 1969.
To Russ, there were several faces missing at the Texas Show this year but had a good time with those who showed up. I know it’s out of the way for a lot of folks, but for my wife and I the trip is worth the time and money even if there wasn’t a show.
Ed Borris!
I had seen that you and Mike K. Frequent this wonderful site, so I had to join as well. Not to embarress you, but your instigation of the Mike Kutnick figure was touching. I hope Mike is doing better. I had hoped to see you both this year at the Texas show, but perhaps next year. I would be interested in some of your Alamo figures. I purchased the North Wall section and some Texians and soldatos from Mr. Nick and Deanna. I like your dying Mexican soldiers and perhaps anything else you have hidden away that is figure and Alamo related. DonP., I did see the Koreans available on Amazon and will probably purchase from them soon. Thanks. Wayne W., I will try to convince the wife to come next year, though her absence allows me more play money. Ha Look forward to sharing in my small way on this convivial forum.
Regards, Russ

I have removed your email address for safety reasons. I have sent your email address to Ed for you
Lets get some WINTER US soldiers on the drawing board.
TSSD gave us 4 poses. Far too few.
I’m going to convert all my N. Korans and Chinese into WWII Soviets.
Thank you Sir for the security and help.
Best, Russ

Happy to help
What is the North Korean officer holding?
Nice figures!
It is either a pistol or a flare gun, the NKPA used flares a lot to communicate and signal to their soldiers. Been doing some reading in what to me is one of the best, if not the best book that covers all of the Korean War, “This Kind of War” by T.R. Fehrenbach. Great book, if you can find a copy, get it and read it.
Bobby G. Moore
Looks like a flair pistol. I think the pouch, at his front, is a flair pouch for differing colored flairs.
Tom,he look to me like holding and just finish loading the mag clip on a pistol, he also wearing winter gloves. Very odd his pistol holder on his left any how!?
Maybe it’s his favorite stuffed animal.
LOL!! or a bottle to warm out!!.We will have to wait till finish product come out I guess.
Haha!
These commies should fight well with the MARX 60mm “Combat” G.I.s still made in Mexico. “The Steel Helmet” or “Fixed Bayonets” playsets!
