Lots of PECO stuff hit e-bay this week, you guys got me all charged up and I’m biding on them.

That was a nice article on PECO in Play Set Magazine, never saw PECO figures that clean before, the blue color of the Blackbeard figure was outstanding, I also like the yellow and blue accessories.

Someone needs to make PECO like figures for Germans or Japanese to give them opponents. I think a whole of line of figures in that size and vein would be cool. Erwin?

ED. I wish I could make every body happy; but not my goal now on that category, neither will be a good long lasting sale product I think. If a short run production option is found could be an option test definitely . Not in my plans for now.

Paul, are you going to the West Virginia Marx Conference this year? Do you stay overnight? Where? Which dealers/vendors are typically there? Thanks.

When Laurie and I have gone to West Virginia for the Marx Meet, we have usually stayed over one or two nights. The closest hotel to the show is a Super 8 which also the cheapest. There are other hotels such as a Holiday Inn and Hampton Inn. We stayed at the Super 8 and found it met our needs until last time we had a problem with our room.
As to dealers who will be there, here is a partial list. John Stengel, Rick Eber, Alan Ford, Mark Hageman, Bob Jones, Joe Falce, Calvin, John Reichl and Tom Stein with his friend Pat are some of the dealers that will be there. Most of those names will be familiar to you except Tom Stein and John Reichl who are east coast people. There are other people whose names escape me.
The show is on two floors, the basement and first floor. The first floor is dark, while the basement is well lite. The basement is a series of small rooms.
Now to your question will Laurie and I be there. The answer is no. Once again it is cost. Because of the problem we had with the hotel, we would have to go to somewhere more expensive. We also have to board the dogs. Last time I did not do well in buying to justify in my book the overhead and time spent traveling to and from the show. I felt I could use that money better here to buy goods.
I have nothing against the show as it is a nice friendly show with lots of good people. If you go to show, you will have to take time out to go to the Marx Museum and they will have a meeting of their members on Saturday June 20.

Thanks for the good report, Paul. My wife and I have stayed in many Super 8s and Motel 6s, and always found them just fine. I’d be happy to save $50.00 a night even at OTSN, except for the fact that being right in the middle of the room trading is so fun.

I haven’t made up my mind about West Virginia yet. But I just ran a Mapquest and noted it is only 25 miles further than OTSN is from my front door (each way, for a total increase of 50 miles). Maybe that’s not so much, for a chance to take at least a one-time pilgrimage to the Marx plant and museum, something that had such a big influence on my childhood (and subsequent life).

I wonder if Mark Hageman is going to be at OTSN this year. I enjoyed his excellent Pecos Pirate article in Playset Magazine.

I would recommend doing the Marx Meet once as you can do the show for part of the day and then go over to Moundsville to the Marx museum. Or join the museum and you can go over to the meeting Saturday night.
I have no idea on Mark if he will be at OTSN, I will have to check with Mark on if he is going. If you go to Marx meet, Mark will be there.

    Erwin,

You are of course correct, but it was worth a shot.

Echoing Erwin’s thoughts, it would be great for us to have more Peco type figures. The problem is demand. The Peco figures were only made between 1952 to 1956. I got lucky as a child to buy one at fountain shop that had some old toy stock around 1960. The cost to make the molds is so expensive and the return does not warrant it. If they get the cost down on 3D printing and the time then maybe someone could do your dream.

I heard from a friend that the main public library in our capital city (Sacramento) has a 3-D printer available for public use. You guys might want to check out your public libraries or University libraries and see what may be available in your area. With additional help from a 3D scanner you could copy any figure and print it in any size or color you want. Amazing technology!

I think it’s a pipe dream, but if they were affordable they could renew or spark the interest of the young, they would be more like action figures which still draws their interest. The key to sparking interest of the young is to get them displayed somewhere that they actually go, like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Toys R US, Hobby Lobby etc etc. Of course that has always been the rub huh?

    • Don Perkins says:

For some reason, since I was born in 1951, I don’t ever recall having or being exposed to Pecos toy figures, even though I was quite into all toy soldiers from my earliest remembrances. But after seeing all the photos in the last issue of Playset Magazine, I do think they are quite neat. I especially have to admire the sculpting of those 4 pirate character figures..

  5. ed borris says:

    Don,

I think I tried to sell my pirates to you once at Indy. I ended up selling them to Eric K, he traded them to someone else.

Glad you guys enjoyed my PECO’s article. I had submitted it to Rusty over a year ago and am glad he was finally able to fit it in.
I just love those figures! Actually I really like any figures with detachable gear such as MPC, Timpo, Archer, or Britains.

  7. ERWIN says:

Interesting how good/high mark those peco pirates went on eBay ,three last bid figures went from $81.00 to $152.00 each end bid .There few more listed and look like going ballistic too.
