Lucky Find

Marx Blue and Gray is my main collecting interest, so I am always looking for big lots on Ebay, to fill in pieces in partial sets that I have. So, I placed a bid on this lot and forgot about it. A couple of days later I got an email that I won. So, I paid and waited for the box to come, thinking that there was an almost complete hospital wagon with the seat, hitch (one rein split) and the clip on box. There were lots of small parts that I needed to complete full sets and the wagon alone was almost worth the price of the entire lot.

So, the set came and I was happy to see that all 3 Union and 2 CSA Flag bearers were complete with flags which was an added bonus. And then this:

Take a good look at that Fort Apache cannon.

Yup!! That is a Marx GOLD firing Cannon. It has to be one of the rarest ACW pieces out there. I’ve been collecting forever and I’ve only seen the gold cannon once in my life.  That person had 2 gold cannons!  I investigated and discovered that they were replacements for the cap firing pistol in some Giant sets, when they ran out of pistols.

I’ve got the boxes, bags, dividers, the record, cap pistols with bullets, even a couple of sets of paints and the brush, never. No way did I ever think that I would find one of these

I wish that I could say that I bought the lot because of the gold cannon, but that’s not the case. I was shocked when I unwrapped the cannon and immediately knew what it was. I still can’t get over it.

What can I say? You just never know………….Bill
