Might not be the right place for this, but Merry Christmas to all of you out there.
Thanks ! Merry Christmas to you and all our Friends on the blog !
Thank you eborris;I think it is always a right place for wishing a very nice merry Christmas to all!!.Hope admin agree on this.
About Airfix ;are these the former kits already on sale in UK or a new never release solid build armor cannon??.As both pieces mentioned before I do have in kits on the right 1.32 scale done.
Ya, well Santa sure didn’t visit us in the form of AIRFIX this year!
To me, the only surprise was the re-release of the 1:32 Brit.17 Pounder kit.
Sadly I have it already.
I was wishing for the 1:32
*Italian Infantry
*West German Inf. & Modern British Inf.
I guess i was naughty this year?
Christian, contact me at nevinsrip@aol.com. I’ve got about 100 original Airfix Italians that I can spare.
Thanks for the offer Bill.
I already have them.
The reason I wanted the above 3 sets reissued is because of the type of plastic Airfix uses with their reissues, its great for making and gluing conversions!
ITALIANS = at least 3 new poses
E. GERMANS = WAFFEN SS
BRITISH = D-DAY CANADIANS
There’s always next year?
Those Airfix WWII Italians have never been recast. I wonder if the molds even exist. Humbrol never did them and no one else afterwards, either. I wouldn’t dare cut up any of the ones I have. The poses are decent, just too many with the M-1938 Beretta SMG. Not ever issued so lavishly, except to the Folgore Division (the Para unit that went to N. Africa) and a few other exceptions.
Agree on m38 light submachine gnu way too much represented in many poses, inluded the “waterloo” and CTS company italians figures too.The same goes for Germans with way too many MP 38-40,that in reality even done in more quantities than Italians LSMG were in more less quantities than what hollywood and toy soldier portrait. In fact the Russians had over 5 million more PPSH41 plus over 2 million other models versus Germany had no than 1.5 million all type Sub machine guns during war. It is a false image and concept not historical depicted in movies and toy soldiers poses/figures.
I wouldn’t mind having a few more. I’ve found they go quite well with the Classic Italians and the gray aren’t too far off from the Airfix figures I have. As with Greg I’d be loathe to paint or convert those I have or could get.
Wish Airfix would upscale their Coastal Defense Fort to 54MM.
Maybe I’m wrong but since the new owners have taken over the Airfix brand they have not done anything new in 1/32. Only recasts?
Tom
In regards to figures they have not done any new figures and just doing reissues.
I would like to have AIRFIX upscale their:
*LUFTWAFFE Ground Crews
*RAF Ground Crews & *USAAF Ground Crews into 1:32.
With all the new 1:32 Aircraft kits being released today, I think they would sell well!
While we’re at it I wish Airfix would up scale all their 1/72 figure sets to 54MM,and also all those other Companies that make some outstanding sets from different periods of history(I’m looking at you Revell in particular) in 1/72 would get on the stick and upscale their sets as well.
Brian
They will not upscale their figures it would cost to much and they are contented with just reissued the old stuff.
Christian
I do not think they would sell well. With the risks and problems have today, they will go with sure things.
The Airfix 1/32 WWII Italian mold was damaged so they could not run it. I had the guy I was working with to reissue the Napoleonics range ask about the WWII Italian mold years ago.
OK for years I had heard the same from others about mold damages;but one thing need to be clear. Most big toy soldiers/hobby companies such as AIRFIX did not make one single mold out of one set/and original casting. Like many other molds are done in double(minimum) to avoid production problems such as damages or lost. The original matrix/mold master is kept separated from factory production line too. The same first mold of airfix production sets is not the same used years after, neither the one used by Humbrol.
Airfix Napoleonic french imperial guard/grenadiers original mold was complete redone and done with new poses add on later. Base on original master mold kept separated as well.
Wasted mold were sold to many other Hong Kong/Chinese firms and cloned after.
So in the case of Italian WW2 either the master was damage(which I doubt) or owner decided it is not a good seller. Either because after all and unfortunately Italian soldiers are not that appreciated in the market because their poor representation in movies and war documentaries ,also base in the fact they only fought the allies for only a year or so with exception of INS forces. So historical are not that important to most toy soldiers collector/buyers located in the western(America and Western Europe) areas.
Erwin
In regards to your comments, I would disagree that duplicate molds were made. It may be done that way in other industries, but most of these toy companies did only one mold. I based that on years of experiences on molds. Britains leased their molds to Argentina and never able to get them back. that is why you did not see certain Deetail from Britains in their line up. Ideal only did one set of molds as I know the two parties who got into the warehouse and got the molds. Marx molds with certain exceptions were only one. When Marx Factory was sold Horowitz he was missing a number of molds. These molds were scatter around the world. An example of this is the American beauties in Mexico. I know the six issue monsters had two molds one in the U.S. and the other in Mexico.
The Airfix Imperial guard was not a new mold, the officer with the sword was there but was closed off during the original run and was brought in the reissue run.
Molds are sold, leased and traded around the world.
The Italians very likely were a poor seller also they came at the end of the run for Airfix. I have heard reports of damage on the Airfix Italians. We do not how extensive and whether it can be repaired. It would be up to the present holder of the molds to see what can or can’t be done on the mold.
Many figure molds are made with removable cavities. In talks with Processed Plastic’s David Bergman he told me accidents did happen as the molds were 300-500 pounds and not always easy to move around. If a figure cavity was damaged it could be replaced if unfixable. This is why the Processed Plastic Vietnam GI walking with rifle pose disappeared. Also their grenade thrower got a new hand. They had some duplicate molds due to the popularity of the figures. They has two civil war molds so one could be run in blue while the other was run in gray. They sold Union, Confederates and mixed color header card bags. Their Vietnam GIs were so popular they made two 24 cavity molds and one 36 cavity mold. Most of the rest of the figure lines only had one mold. When Lido went out of business they made a catalog of molds for sale that I got a copy of. They had no duplicate molds.
If you search the web for “WWII plastic toy soldiers” you may find a 2012 article by a hobbyist who made his own plastic replicas of Airfix WWII Italians. With his instructions you could also copy your conversions of the figures as well.
Yes it was plastic general owner(he did quite interesting work reproducing them). If follow his steps could be done very nice figures to avoid hard to get/pay priced figures. The explanation is very well done and result very close to originals. Also a simple figure recast/reproduction video is available at you tube using silicone material single pot mold. The result is a good prototype. Please type (under plastic soldier mold cast) on you tube. Several people are using this method of silicone as is easy and uncomplicated for personal casting own created figures or reissues copies/clone.
