Our good friend Brian Johnson sent us this information on a Canadian plastic company called Reliable. The Reliable company produced these horses in 50’s-early 60’s and were
sold in Header bags with figures of mounted RCMP, Indians and Cowboys. They were also used in the Canadian version of the T-Cohn Fort Superior Playset. The Palomino with the Marx Roy Rogers figure I called Trigger although it wasn’t marketed under that name. The White one was sort of a
creamy color which I called Buttermilk for Dale Evans horse again was not marketed by Reliable with the name. I have an example but is so safely stored away I don’t know where I have it, LOL
They came in Yellow White, Brown and for some reason the most common color was RED. The Black ones in the
picture with the Marx Mounties I re-painted. I believe they were cloned by Reliable from Airfix horses that I have seen pictures of, the only difference is the Airfix horses have reins. The Lido/Beton horse in picture is for size comparison.
The Reliable horses are hard to find now in 10 years on Ebay I’ve only found 2 of them in one auction, I would think they might show up in the Northern Border States. So if anyone ever comes across them in your travels
I am always interested in obtaining them
Are these the one in hard stiff plastic!?Some with seat painted, others not!?.
I had seen and own few of one of the two poses in hard and soft plastic but my assumption WAS; they are American version of same horse or Reliable copied the American version!?
Hard plastic, didn’t come in Soft plastic, saddles painted, there is only the one pose.
Ok, yes I do have one…and a hard plastic lido painted too. Sellers at eBay some times drop the one pose (reliable) with others in bulk cheap lots..As they don’t have any marks or else…apparently reliable is no that “reliable” I guess!!LOL!!
What colour?Email me a picture when you get time,Thanx.
