A Two Dollar Junk Bag

020

As you know I like to buy junk bags. As I said before I love to search through the junk lots to find little treasures for you and myself. I was at my Wednesday flea market last week and I found a woman with some junk bags. One of the bags she had I noticed the Auburn soldier and farmer. The price for the bag was $2.00 and I was curious what else was in the bag.  Going through the bag most of the bag was fast food items, but there were several old figures. Also in the bag was some other interesting items.  As you can see besides the Auburn figures there were several soldiers made in China, ram, a small Dracula and the Devil. Now I will have to find out who made the devil and Dracula.

Wow! The devil is really neat.

Yea, I like that devil figure too. But getting two Auburn figures plus an assortment of other odds and ends, like the above, for $2.00, is picking at its best.

Incidently, for lack of a better place to post this, TSSD’s website depicts the new Expeditionary Force knights in excellent photos, and confirms the ones they will be carrying are in a “light metallic gray”, which I consider an excellent color choice for knights. Like Admin, I would have interpreted the early report of the figures being colored in “anthracite” to mean “black”. But “light metallic gray” is just perfect for these outstanding new figures.

      Don
I have heard from Erwin that the Dracula and devil figures are from a chest set.
Glad to hear that the knights will be done in a metallic gray.
Correction Shaun as noted in his comment the Devil is from a series Innovative kids Groovy tubes

I’m strangely attracted to the Devil figure also?
The 70mm ELASTOLIN Romans always reminded me of the figures in nativity scenes.
They would have made great DEVILS & ANGELS battling! Catholic Style!!!

I got my new Expeditionary Force knights from TSSD today. They came in a light gray metallic, and are the exact shade of the original Marx 60mm and 54mm knights in the Robin Hood and Prince Valiant playsets. I am completely happy with this color.

Of more concern — a source of dissatisfaction really — is what I would regard as the extreme kit form the pieces came in. I ordered one box each of the mounted knight sets — a total of 3 boxes, coming to $100.00.

Nothing arrives already assembled. Even the horses come in 4 parts, and the horses have to be positioned in the 4 holes in the base, and then glued in. All the parts on both the horse and rider are definitely not snap-into-place. The parts do not hold without glue. Glue has to be used, and the box contains no directions or recommendation on which glue to use. My experience in the past is that many glues do not work on soft plastic, or, at the least, appear to work for a time, but after awhile the glue dries up and the glued pieces come apart.

Each figure is going to be a several minute project, and is going to entail keeping the glue from running and coming out of the cracks and seams of where parts meet other parts. I guess some collectors like this, but my own preference is to take a completed figure out of the box to set up and look at, rather than a model I have to assemble with glue. I perceive enough work with these that it becomes a project, one I can’t attend to right away, so everything stays in the boxes for awhile until I have time for it.

I note that James Delson’s Toy Soldier Company advertises these same Expeditionary Force sets and offers to assemble the figures for each buyer for a price. It’s probably some outrageous price, but I think I’ll inquire as to how much he charges before I get whatever the next release is.

I like to get my figures complete not in kit form too. Erwin has some suggestions on putting the figures together. I noticed on Delson’s site he recommends Gorilla glue. Any comments on that glue?

No running gel krazy glue gel is the best, I had used often in all Conte, Hats and OWN brand plug in parts ,use latex spandex outside powder gloves to avoid glue in fingers, IF NOT USING GLOVES ,have an alcohol isopropyl bottle next and rubber your fingers after each glue placement.
One touch/drop is enough to hold for less than a minute two parts and then let off your hands .The two pieces will stay drying for next few hours. Any figures done in a three parts cavity mold or more as 3D design will come like that. If factory offer assembling it will increase the price way more. Avoid breathing too close of have small fan pushing gas/smell of glue away from your nose/eyes as working. I know is a bit of time and need some patience but could be done. Please be aware that any kit /hard plastic cement /glue are not good at all for any polyethylene/soft plastic material. Hope it help!!

I use brush on Crazy Glue for all my conversions, it works well for me and you can put on as much or as little as you desire. Of course if you load it up the glue will run.
