Expeditionary Force Knights

On Steve Weston’s web site, Steve is reporting that Expeditionary Force will be coming out with seven sets of knights. There will be four foot sets and 3 mounted sets.  The knights will be 56 to 56mm in height. Steve is hoping to have them  in December. No further details or photos were given. As I get more information, I will pass it along.

Could we have a World Conference where all the Figure Companies agree to just what size a 54MM figure is and that that size is what will be used from now on for everyone(except for those useless 1/72’s),LOL.

  2. erwin says:

Well: Unfortunately; I do not agree as I do like all old 60 mm MARX/ ideal/else figures too and felt they need their new production match as well; but once again cutting reducing base with a simple tool will do the work in most new resent production figures …Accurate knights were about 50-52 mm scale compared to airfix and Britain back in the 90’s still we appreciate their coming .So if we accept smaller than 54 mm why not 56-60 mm scale too. No human is similar to other in size/stature either; even in most military formation march you can see the disparate on sizes of troopers.
Where size/SCALE should be match with not variation is in same production scale vehicles. Sample the Sherman tank made by BMC is 1.32 scale, and the King Tiger done by same company are none at all in same scale each other, put one next to the Sherman, check true dimension of Sherman versus tiger and you will see the errors. Not to mention that the Sherman was done with never seen two pieces recoil cannon tube and front corner folded plate. Not realist at all. In fact if they were really copied from K& C as being claim ,I had check and the three different Sherman done by K&C in resin/cast are correct in size and detail and not the same as the one done in plastic. Forces of valor tiger and Sherman are in scale each other….Still we can play with all by just placing some farther from other in same scene..
    My opinion.

I like the 56mm-60mm size. Finally some nicely sculpted Archers and Men-At-Arms of the 100 Yrs War in plastic. Greatly looking forward to them.

Thanks for the photos, I would like the figures in silver, but that is just me, For our readers anthracite is black.

It’s not just you, Admin. Knights being in a silver color are preferred by many, which is why silver is the color of choice for so many plastic knights. Black and white are, to me, the least desirable colors, since both of those colors tend to hide detail. When I set toy soldiers up on my basement battleboard, both solid white and solid black figures look like pure blobs, rather than actual distinct figures.

I’ve purchased everything Expeditionary Force has offered. Their figures are really nice. The new figures look very nice as well. I wish the company would reconsider their choice of colors. How about silver and gold? How about blue and yellow? How about crimson and creme? Anything but black and white. Those are the only colors I’ll pass on.

Too late. Colors already choosed and figured are ready for sale.

The world of merchandising, including toy soldier merchandising, is littered with marketing mistakes. This one is the equivilent of the color choices of Call To Arms, which chooses, in the face of all advice to the contrary, to release all their 24th foot and Napoleonics in tan, and their American Revolution figures in gray.

I use to buy multiple sets of all new plastic toy soldier products, just to support those dealers who chose to take a chance on what can be a somewhat difficult market. But now, in the retirement years of my toy soldier collecting, I refuse to do that anymore, when the product is deficient in either sculpting, plastic, or color. I stopped buying Call To Arms because of their insipid color choices, and, despite being a buyer of all previous Expeditionary Force products, which I’ve really liked up till now, I’m not going to pay their already somewhat stiff prices, when they issue their product in thoughtless color schemes.

Again, the sculpting of this new medieval range looks excellent. But for those of us who don’t paint our figures, the color choices are crappy.

Of course, that’s just my humble opinion (along with Admin). But I’m the one who decides whether to pull out my credit card. And it’s going to be slow to come out this time.

Very nice Denitz ! Excellent sculpting and the extras are a wonderful addition !

My opinion: Anthracite color; if pure should be darker almost black but NOT black at all. I will assume they choose this color as to correct the anthracite type coloration that happen on all medieval iron coats, armor, weapons/helmets when some use in field and not constant clean out. So they will match the accurate original figures done in that color and very close to some of the Airfix dark grey color too. The picture show not (anthracite) but a very gold shade image tone that will be the white-pearl!?or second option mentioned. Both are resemble of the silver and gold tone. So I will suggest every collector to see one on hand first to match and choose them.
In my opinion none are black or white at all by looking at pictures and both (white-pearl and anthracite) are NOT white or black but closer to gold and grey/iron metallic color instead. In fact those color are historical more accurate than any as battlefield depiction possible. Shine metallic silver and gold are nice color but not true realist colors of the armor during battle, which is just in cartoons and movies. Still good for toys.
About overall detail of figures, they are awesome and very good match with Italeri figures in accuracy/poses and 3D mold design. Not to mention that this time they choose a more generic troopers/sergeant poses that could be used not only for the 100 years war but all over Europe as well. Price so far still in the range of high quality value figures of this mold on a limited business.
But eventually like every brand it will start increase soon.
    Once again my thoughts!!

The figures remind me of Cafe Storme or Mokarex !

  7. Tom Black says:

Nice variety in weapons and helmets. The crossbowmen have to be the best produced in plastic. Also the Man-At-Arms with the open visor is a great sculpt.

  8. denitz says:

    Released !!!

Metallic dark grey and metallic light grey colors.

    I was right/close then, I guess..!!

I have held, in my hand, samples of anthracite coal, in a college geology class. Believe me, it is black — shiney black, but black just the same. Fortunately, TSSD is offering all the figures in what they call “light metallic gray”, which I think is an excellent color for chain mail, plate armor, and plastic knights in general. I couldn’t be happier, and have already placed my order.

      • Don Perkins says:

I stand corrected. After googling “anthracite coal photos”, I can see from the samples that the color scheme ranges from black to dark gray. In any event, since I generally prefer lighter colored plastic figures, I ordered my Expeditionary Force knights in the “light metallic gray” option, which I think is the single option TSSD has chosen to carry. When I placed the order (pre-order actually), Deana assured me they had already been shipped from Hong Kong, and were expected to arrive in California in less than a week.

          Don
I am used to anthracite coal being black from growing up being near coal region where most of the anthracite coal was dug up.

The mounted Knights seem to be copies of the metal Knights offered by a company called valiant that went out of business a few years ago. I have a few and the bodies and heads look identical down to the animal heads on the helmets. I thought about buying the moulds from t.he company but they went elsewhere.
