Our very good friend Mark McNamara is looking for the Durham German troop transport also know as the Grey Ghost. Mark is planning to take the top of so he can better seat his Marx seated Germans.

I had seen several carry by a guy at NJ show every year (last year too),also on ebay international under (panzer or hong kong military toys)…look for..
Slight correction,
I’m not looking to buy one myself ,I had one when I was a kid and really liked the quality I did pull the top off just to make it easier to put the Marx seated Germans in, fit in nice .I was just wondering if anybody else has had one or has one ?
Thanks,Mark
I think I bought mine around 1972 -1975 maybe ?
I often wonder why Durham picked that German vehicle to do and never did any others except the Tiger which is way too small to be of any use.Maybe it was too exotic for US market to sell well.Maybe if they had started with a US 1/2 Track there would now be lots of Durhams people would be nostalgic about and trying to find on Ebay eh!!
Time frame correct. A motorized (battery version) was sold around same time too. I do own one from 1978, other was bough resent. Same company did a tiger and king tiger around same time in same scale(about 1.48-1.45)!.Were the only ones done in those years together with airfix in plastic that close/truly represent real ww2 German armor/vehicle. The Marx seated poses fit much better than in original(what was that!?) armor troop carrier made for germans
Greg Liska first pictures of previews German self-propelled gun made by him show one with his armor/figures too. It work perfect with any CTS scale too.
Did not know they made a motorized version and a Tiger and King Tiger, thanks for the info guys think I’ll try to find some photos of them !
Check eBay item number: 27160721994 8 on eBay. Later another Hong Kong company copied and release then with friction system but more toy type..
Yea ,I see it the gun doesn’t seem that accurate looks more at home on a panzer 4 or something I think ,don’t know why it seems so short maybe broke ?
Mark
Mark, you are correct it is broken half way…If interested you may search in few days/weeks or often, they will appear more on eBay. This king tiger is the more abundant as was the last model done.Tiger1 and halftrack are harder to get. Still they are not 100% accurate on detail. If bid on this you may be able to adapt/glue any 1.45 scale kit cannon barrel with gas suppression, maybe!?
I did change the main guns out on a few of the Tiger IIs for a friend. Came out looking way better!
Thanks Erwin !
I’ve got 5 or 6 of these. I do not collect WW 2, so if you are looking for one contact me.
Got them in a collection that was left to me.
Bill what do you have, halftracks or others!?
The Gray Ghost vehicles.
Durham did do at least one US vehicle. I don’t know the name of it, but it’s an artillery tractor. I suppose I could look it up, but it’s late. You can see one in Kelly’s Heroes. The boat is being taken away strapped to the vehicle I’m talking about. I had one of the Durham vehicles. it was missing the blade and the head of the man in the hatch was broken off. I’d only ever seen one more.
The Durham vehicles had motorized and some wind up toy versions. Some of the ones I own were made without the parts in it, but the spaces for the key, motor, whichever, are still present.
The Tiger II fits well with the Marx stuff. The gun is rather understated, which looks even stranger since the gun on the Mx German tank is terribly overstated. The SdKfz-7 halftrack is about 1/35 or just a bit smaller. Placing them next to a 21st C one, they are less than an inch shorter. It’s meant to haul artillery, not infantry. It doesn’t provide the kind of protection the SdKfz-251 does (the infantry one that Airfix made). I have 8 of them, but there’s good reason, not hoarding. 4 are to haul a battery of 15cm field arty and the other 4 moves a battery of Flak-37s. I build units. It’s just how I do things. I have 6 of the Tiger IIs as a Halbkompanie as they were often deployed like that.
I goggled Images Durham Industries tank and an American ( maybe Marines ) six wheeled armored car/reconnaissance looking vehicle (1970’s/1980’s or later ?) also came up
Mark
Can you post picture??
I think I’d seen a Saladin Recce Car done in hard plastic and was definitely HK. I had no interest at the time, so I don’t remember if it was Durham or not.
Can’t believe it ! I cant find the armored car looking reconnaissance vehicle Photo on Google now It looked like something the Marines might used any where from the 70’s to maybe the 90’s ?
Kind of like a Stryker but with 6 wheels, had an American flag sticker on it .
Mark
Mark something tell me what you found at was the Saladin British armored car(POST WW2) in plastic large size(yes done by DURHAM) BATTERY OPERATED; it was in 7″ long as contrary to most smaller size done ,copies of Britain,Solido and Crescent by Chinese and Hong Kong companies. Later same mold was either used, bought or rented and produced by an argentine company in the 80’s.
It is possible Erwin,I pretty sure it was in a tan color , apparently the photo was taken down
