It never fails to amaze me how many different Marx figures were copied. The latest find were these sports figures The lot  contains nine different figures.  I have no idea who made them. the detail is not as sharp as the Marx originals.

Paul, it is amazing but really shouldn’t surprise us. After all, Marx set the standard back for us boomers. I remember the height of my Christmas was when I found a Marx Playset under my tree; MPC, the Remco WWI set one Christmas (that I wish I still had), Ideal, & others were okay – but Marx was the gold standard IMHO. And the quality holds up even today for the most part. As they say, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

Well, after Marx got through the vinyl figures stage, their sculpting was really top notch and all the other makes paled in comparrison. Even though a lot of the Marx poses left a lot to be desired as far as hard core combat action was concerned, they were still top notch. Their closest competitor in terms of sculpting was probably Ideal and there figures while good were either too big (GI’s/Sailors/Knights) or too small. (pirates) Ideal did drop the ball on the mounties, 7th cavalry and their cowboys and Indians

Paul, did you or Ed, ever find out anymore info on the Gun smoke characters done in Mexico, the ones Ed found out about. They were done in silver if my memory serves me right. Evidently PlastiMarx down in Mexico must have gotten either copies, or most of Marx’s molds, especially on the character figures, which might have included most of the speciality figures as well, perhaps that is what these were as well, of course I am guessing on this.

It also seems like someone is keeping big secrets on purpose.

We have not found any more information on the Gunsmoke figures from Mexico. I keep searching and when we get an answer we will let you know.
