Lew White has sent in a photo of some WWI using AIP figures he has converted. I will let Les explained what he did.
Attached is a pic of a couple of conversions I did of AIP WW1 figs into early war French and British infantry. The French guy was easy just removed the havelock the British was a little more work, removed the Gas mask bag and created the capped head. They have the look of an AIP original. What do you think ?
I like them what do you think?
Nice job Les , they look original to me !
Will like too see a more close (front) pictue of figure if possible, they look nice and great paint job so far
Hi Erwin,
The front of the British soldier is re-carved to show the two equipment straps and the overlap in the front of the jacket. I left a little of the gas mask container on the fig when I cut it off to allow me to sculpt these details. I also tidied up the jacket collar.
I just painted on the buttons. I wanted a basic toy soldier like paint job 🙂
I will make a unit of 10 men ,but have to adapt the lying fig to be a rifleman as they didn’t use the Lewis gun this early in the war.
However if I leave the Lewis Gunner with just the new cap I can use them for overseas service up to 1937 when new web equipment came out for the British Army. I have some ideas for the AIP WW1 Highlander set.
With the French I will make some extra poses on top of the 9 originals and definately do a new Officer, I dislike waving ones. There are many differnt paint jobs that can be done for the French.
Appreciate your comments.
Best Regards,
Les
Would like to see what they looked like before the conversion. I’m not a fan of AIP, so not all that familiar with their figures, I think I own exactly one and he must be an early offering as he is a very soft plastic, may even be vinyl.
They ought to make some like this! Great job!
