Macungie Part Two

On Saturday I was up at 5, but waited to nearly six before starting to get ready to go. I took the boys out and got dressed. I left the house and arrived at the show around 7 AM. Toy show had two good spots to park for free for the buyers and I picked the one I had been in the day before.  I checked the outside  stands and stopped back John’s and Mike’s stands. They told me that they had drenching downpours the night before.  I asked Mike if he had sold those Marx Ranch Kids and Jim Hardy and he had along with a Marx stagecoach. After talking to them for a few minutes, I headed down the hill to the inside show.

I got down to the inside building and ran into a old friend Kenny Chapman.  He and I talk how things were and then headed in. I had come to meet a source and pick up a nice lot of odds and ends.  I also got another mixed lot from a dealer. I helped my source get things into the show. I walked around and saw a Marx heritage Civil War playset which I did not ask the price and set of the Campus Cuties for $70.00 which I passed on I also passed on a six inch Marx pioneer.  I did find amongst  some Marx Disney figures a Lido Robot I could use.

After going around a few times the show, I decided to call it a day. I missed the free bus they had, so I went up the hill with my items. I ran into  a collector who I had not seen in years and then had the surprise of the day.  A dealer had in his van  a box of Marx pieces. I looked over the lot and discover it was a partial Captain Gallant and Alamo playset.  The Foreign Legion figures were broken, but the Arabs were perfect.  Usually it is the other way around. After negotiating a price I bought the lot. I felt lucky as usually there several collectors and dealer roaming around and I miss out on these finds. The weather could have been a factor in my good luck as I was told 16 miles south of us they had rain which could have scared off some people.

I left the show having one of the best Macungie shows in years.

Two interesting notes about the Alamo set, first it was the one with Tom Corbett Cannon instead of the Alamo cannon. Second the playset bags had crumbled apart.

I had a good time seeing friends and the finds. I also had a nice egg and cheese sandwich done by a Local Ladies axillary. I love to share my experiences as one person said to me he enjoyed my adventures as he would never get to do things I had done

Thank you it is hard work and luck. The last good find like this was a few years ago Laurie and I did a flea market called Shupp’s grove. I found a guy with some partial playsets cheap and then Laurie found behind me a partial Daktari set. The set was missing the hunters also very reasonable. I also got lucky at a country auction where a partial Super Circus turned up. I thought I would have battle as before the Super Circus had paid $50.00 for T Cohn trading post and some miscellaneous figures. I have not gotten anything at either place.

I never knew about the super circus stuff, not exactly what I collect, however, about 2 months ago there was an Ideal big ring circus up for sale. It went for $50. It had lots of pictures, it was missing one line for the high wire act, and a couple of the animals were missing parts, one baby elephant was missing, and one’s trunk was broken, one of the show horse’s plumes were broken. It looked like it was in great shape other than that.

It also had the instructions, and it had 10 acts I believe, it was cool. Paul was that how Marx’s kinda was, because they usually are expensive on ebay, and I never check them out. I saw a schoolhouse by Marx go for over $600, that was near mint, and complete, it also was pretty cool.

I never knew about it either. It isn’t something I normally collect, but I thought about bidding on it anyway in case my Niece ever has any children. It would make a wonderful gift for a girl. I also saw that skyscraper set, I could imagine if you had the room having a whole town set up with marx playsets, lol. You could have the Untouchable playset downtown away from the school house, and skyscraper. You could have the farm, and circus, a train , and yard. Numerous houses as well.

I can only imagine at some people’s collections.
