CS Asko sent us this picture of a Zorro figure. He asked me who made him? The figure looked familiar, I could not remember when I first saw it. I was thinking it was from South America. After some reflection I checked Kent’s site, and did a search. It looks like the Dulcop, the problem is the horse is not Dulcop also the leg position is wrong. Does anyone recognize it?

Paul, if you do a search for Zorro figures, they gave it as a re cast mounted Dulcop Zorro. I don’t know because I never bought the mounted one. I didn’t know it came with a whip, and choice of swords. Thats pretty nice, not only that, but the cape has a Z on it as well, the foot one does not. I thought it might be Ideal, or Britains maybe.
I have seen it before though, I just don’t remember for sure, so I guess it was a recast of Dulcop’s, I do know the original Dulcop had pegs on the inside of Zorro’s legs, that fit into holes on the horses side. The one you picture, and the one on the site I checked do not appear to have that.
The figure is not a Dulcop, the sculpt is totally different. The plastic texture is different from Dulcop as well. I think it was mentioned when I bought him, that it was a premium. The ring is a cool, unique added extra feature, the weapons sprue with the Zorro name label, and Z on the cape seem to all point to some kind of premium item. At least an interesting figure
Chris
I agree it is not a Dulcop. The giveaway is the horse, Dulcop never made a horse like that They used the same horse pose for all their figures whether it was knights, Napoleonic or western.
The horse looks much like a Reisler
Nice figure/premium ! could it be combination of makers or recast combination ? I’ll do some research, see if I can come up with anything
Mark
As I mentioned in my posting I had seen the figure and I have in my mind Uruguay where made had been made. Very likely it could have been made in Europe and the mold was sold.
It might be a premium figure Chris, and yes it is interesting. Perhaps Cresent, or Kellogs. If you bought it, the horse may not be the one that originally came with that figure. I like the weapon choices, and the cape is different also. I would wear that ring if I were you, lol. I have seen the figure before, perhaps I will remember, or run across it again also.
Thats what I was wondering myself new recasts from old molds ?
I haven’t had time to check them out yet but I just googled images “plastic zorro figures” and it looks like the horse and figure came up I’ll have to check a little deeper !
No luck ! looks like different figures from what I can See!
Ok here is what I have found out about this figure.
You can get the figure for just under 5 lbs. Thru DSG . Evidently you can also get the Rubenstein cowboys, and Indians, they make a lot of different figures, or copies of old figures.
They list the Zorro as a recast Dulcop. Perhaps the original Dulcop Zorro mold was destroyed, or damaged, and it had to be reworked, this is just a guess on my part of course. The horse as you guys have already pointed out, definitely isn’t Dulcops, it might be Britains, or Heralds even, if I had to guess, I would probably pick Herald.
The cape may be from the original Dulcop mold, but reworked with a Z on it. The one sword is definitely Dulcop, the whip, and other sword, possibly Herald, or copied from herald, maybe onto the same mold. I personally think the Zorro is a modified Herald figure. More so than a Dulcop one, maybe the cape makes the difference, keep in mind this is only conjecture on my part. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable on DSG will chime in here, and let us know, instead of trying to guess.
Ed C
Right now I will disagree with what you found out. DSG got some of the Britains molds and has been reusing them various ways. The mounted figures they have made use a Herald Britains horse. Dulcop has given up making figures. I have a feeling it was made by someone else.
You are correct Paul, I am sorry I didn’t mention this, DSG only sells it, they don’t make it, they said from Uruguay, sorry about the implication, I did say thru them however.
They don’t say from what company in Uruguay ( I also think they added, possibly from Italy). It is the only place I could find it.
The horse could definitely be Herald, as well as the whip. The Ring, I don’t have a clue. DSG may have provided parts, or even had a part in this figure possibly with whoever did make it.
IE horse, and whip, maybe one of the Mexican bandits ( they did a Poncho Villa figure and some mexican bandits that are at least possible candidates with slight modifications could be made into a Zorro figure). It is conjecture on my part Paul, and I have been wrong before, so could also be again.
You did say Uruguay in an above post, do you know what company it is.
Ed C
No problem I thought DSG was only selling it. I see that I was right that the company is in Uruguay. most of the molds in South America were from other countries. Hopefully we will get some feedback on where it originally came from. Sadly I have no idea of the name of the company.
Could it be BUM? They also did a Zorro figure in a boxed set.
Mike
Do you have any more information on the Bum set. I have never seen the Bum Zorro set and can not get any reference for it.
Reisler made two Zorro figures poses, the horse look reisler to me!!??.Now Paul mentions a company from Uruguay and he is correct, one company from that country later recast by Gulliver did a Zorro mounted but I don’t remember it with separated cape!?; so maybe I’m wrong and toy hunter=Paul is correct..
Erwin Reisler did a Zorro, but they used their standard horse, which is different from the one that we are talking about. I will have to do some checking on Zorro
Yes it is interesting even how DSG has the figure listed guys. It does not have the ring, however a lot of gum ball prizes from SA are rings of super heroes, and also DSG also sells some super heroes.
I am wondering if this company in Uruguay is a Wholesaler/Manufacturer. I am also wondering what company in Italy, or where ever has all the Dulcop molds, and if just the mounted Zorro one was damaged, or what. I have more questions than when I began checking into it.
Ed C
It is hard to know much about the company without a name. I only discovered the names of the Mexican toy companies by doing border runs and getting header cards. I tried to get some of Laurie’s clients who travel to various places to look for figures with no luck that I gave up.
Another Zorro figure:
I got this at Westcoaster Toy Soldier Show in March. It is 4.5 inches tall solid single piece mounted Zorro figure with a pistol in the right hand and sword in thee left. It has a white hollow body horse with a yellow saddle. The horse is 6 inches high to the top of the head and 9 inches long from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. the pieces do not have any manufacturer’s names or marks. Anyone have an idea of the manufacturer and other data? I could send a picture, but don’t know how to do that.
It was at a low price and I picked it up because I like Zorro. I have liked Zorro since I first saw the Mark of Zorro and the old Disney show reruns when I was young.
2nd Zorro item: Marx hacienda staircase. It is a hard piece to find, as I have the Hacienda without the stairs. Was this piece ever recast? Is there an alternative. I’ve seen stairs from the Marx barracks which could possibly work and these are available on ebay. Are they from the same mold or will they work? The color is wrong, but I can paint the piece if needed, until or instead of having the correct piece.
Looks like I found the figure from an image on Toy Soldier HQ: The large Lido Zorro figure. Next I’d like to see if this is a recast due to the lack of any mfg marks. Should have put “mounted” in my earlier searches.
Kent Sprecher, thanks for your website; re: Lido Zorro.
Per the website of Kent, the horse and saddle are also Lido.
The staircase for the Zorro hacienda has not been recast.
Thanks, Paul.
