Greg Liska has done some changes to the BMC Iwo Jima figures. We will let him explain why
The best BMC figures are arguably the ones from the Iwo Jima set. The poses were taken from King and Country by agreement. The set is great, good figures, but the colors for them were odd. Before anything else, I made the bazooka man into a guy firing an M-3 ‘Grease Gun’. I decided to change the colors from ‘mint green Marines’ to ;Airfix green’ and the Japs from ‘Smoked Salmon’ to Khaki. It changed the look of them SO much! Then there was the Iwo Jima flag raising montage. What to do with it? I hesitated before tearing it apart, thinking that I was maybe being a bit irreverent. Then I thought about them; the men represented there. If you read Flags of Our Fathers or to a lesser extent, saw the movie, you know these guys did not consider themselves ‘special’ or ‘heroes’. They wanted to be considered ‘just another Marine who did his job’. I think by breaking up that iconic accessory and making them into individual Marines again, I did just that. The poses that came out of it are definitely cool, to me. The 3 at the back end of the raising make good prone men handing off ammo, sliding a wounded man back under cover, emplacing a Bangalore torpedo or any number of things. The 3 nearer the front got bases. I hope you’ll look and enjoy
