Odds and Ends Britains Farm Figure More, I start looking at Britain’s farm figure, which could be used another way. Next, I noted the passing of an early collector of Greg Fields. I will also share some other items.
Odds and Ends Britains Farm Figure
One set of figures I look for is the later series of Britains Farm Figures. The latest addition to this aspect of my collection with a bucket and a basket. The figure can be found missing the bucket. Looking at the figure, I realized I could use her for something else. Taking the bucket away, I could put a pistol or a rifle in her ring hand and make her a partisan. I will keep an eye out for another of these figures.
Greg Fields
Rick Eber contacted me to tell me that Greg Fields passed away last August. Greg was in the early days of the hobby. He set up two Marx meets that had a great selection of figures. Greg dropped off the radar some years ago, and I did not hear anything about him until today. One memory I have of Greg deals with Ron Shockley and his figures. Ron’s aunt had acquired a large load of Marx figures from one of the Marx Dumps. Ron had decided to set up at the Atlantic City Collectibles Show. He had 40 to 60 cardboard orange crate-sized boxes full of Marx figures. Greg’s passion for Marx figures made him go through all the boxes. Greg was 71, You can read his obituary here.
Peter Evans Conversion
My friend Peter Evans is a master convertor. I have had the privilege of acquiring some of these figures. The original figure was either a Benbros or a VP British Soldier. In a future post I hope to get Peter to tell more on this figure.
I’m very sad to see that Greg as passed away. He was one of the Originals. I had many, many interactions with him in the early years. He was an honest straightforward guy who had a real passion for all things Marx.
I did a lot of shows that he also set up at. We shared a lot of time together at John Stengle’s Bayside, NY shows. I recall at one show a guy walked in with a boxed Giant Blue and Gray and sold it to Greg for 100 bucks!! Al Striano and I just looked on in amazement. We had the tables next to Greg.
Godspeed, Greg.
