English Plastic Mystery

char001

Here is an interesting figure I picked up recently. The figure is an stretcher bearer for hospital stretcher party. Because he has a red coat  he is English. I figure he is from one of the smaller companies Charbens  or Speedwell. We will have to see what my English friends say.

You may be very right. It could be a porter. I did not think about that. We will have to wait and see what our English readers say about the figure.

    The figure is by GORGI

Peter – and?? We need to know what it is, the suspense is killing us. Don’t leave us hanging.

  4. Peter Evans says:

Okay….(dramatic drum roll) He has a twin – they came with a calm looking patient on a stretcher and were in a box set with an Ambulance. There was an all white version of the figure available too.
Figure is about 50mm and is slightly out of scale with the vehicle.
He was probably sculpted by Bill Farmer who did most of the Gorgi and matchbox range of figures.

Few things I should add (blame leaky memory).
There was a second figure. Walking forward with his hand raised in a ‘stop’ pose.
There were also four traffic cones and a sign saying ‘slow accident’ (if this meant for the cars to slow down or the accident was taking a long time I don’t know).
The jacket is this colour to represent the reflective florescent coats worn by motorway service personnel.

Thank you for the update. Also no problem on the leaky memory, we are all getting it anymore. I am amazed that I can remember half the things I do.

I’m glad we’ve got a knowlegdable English collector on this site to provide accurate, comprehensive information to us on these things.

Peter Evans beside being very knowledgeable, I am proud to call him a very good friend. Laurie and I have spent many great times with him as he taken to places we might never got to. We also like the restaurants he has shared with us over the years. One day I hope to return the favor when he comes over to the states.
