Spring 2024 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show, since the demise of the Hackensack show, the Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show has become my go-to show. Held twice a year in April and August I have found this show as a great place for finding items and the collection. The Spring show was no exception.
Spring 2024 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show Beginnings
The ride to the show is about two to two and a half hours. I make a stop along the way at Rutter’s to get gas and as a rest stop. I arrived at the show a half-hour before the show opened and after paying my admission found a seat and waited. I got to talk to Betty Ford wife of Allan Ford and one of the many Mikes I forgot their last name.
The show opened and after stopping at MikePedergast’s tables I started my hunt.
One of the first tables I bought from was Tom Stine. He had a box of a mix of Marx battleground accessories and other items. Tom did very well as you see from the photo above.
I then had my surprise at the show a dealer had six of the UK’s only six-inch Marx British. Unfortunately, another person was looking at all the Marx six-inch the dealer had. My heart skipped a beat, but the person was not interested in the British figures. He passed on the other figures when he heard the price. I bought British and Andygard Western figures he had.
Bob Hornung
One of the people I saw was an old friend Bob Hornung. Bob makes his figures for sale. Laurie used to get his tiny Matchbox-like figures.
Bob does individual figures to complete massive sets.
Here is a closeup of Bob’s knight figures.
There were other dealers of metal most notable was Matt Murphy of Hobby Bunker. Matt had new metal figures from the major brands plus plastic figures.
Down from Bob Hornung was Kerry who I got Remco Romans in both colors of reed and sliver. Kerry had a bag of junk figures. In the bag was a Marx 60mm Robin Hood Sheriff of Nottingham. I figured it was damaged and I was right the face was scarred. The bag had three Linde Space figures which were copies of Plastic Sculpture. I will have more in my next post.
MicShauon’s Closet Spring 2024 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show
One of my new people that I met was Kim and David Cook of MicShaun’s Closet.
Kim and David had many different foam pieces that had been made by Toys of the Sand Diego and Barszo.
Another item they were selling was the Barzso Collectibles Fortified Fort. I got from them an elephant with a foam howdah.
They had a castle tower which was their own design.
Steve Pyle
Steve Pyle had on display his awards from IMPS the last two years.
As last year Steve had some of his dioramas on display. I like the elephant with the howdah being attacked.
More of Steve’s displays
Warhorse Miniatures
Mike and Carolyn had on display various pieces from his Indian series.
Warhorse had several different types of teepees some of which had never been done.
Mike had U.S. Paratroopers on various scales.
The show was great. The show did not have a lot of people coming in, but those who came bought. I found a number of items for resale. I was just about to leave when I spotted some tan Marx military vehicles. The dealer gave me change including a two-dollar bill. I hate the bill as it is hard to get rid off. So I turned it back to the dealer and got some figures.
I will be there in August.
Paul, That was ME you got that 2 dollar bill from and I could tell you were NOT too awfully excited about it. I have a customer come to that show every year and pays exclusively in 2 dollar bills! I have MORE of them if you like! Ricky Lipp and I had a great show selling MUCH more than we bought, I know Danny, The Toymeister did very well also. I hope to be at the August shindig as well if my schedule works out. Mike Handley (one of the many Mikes at the show)
Hi Mike
The two dollar bills can be a pain to cash. People don’t know where they to put them. I don’t want to blow the mind of the fast food clerk. LOL
I found out that Sherri likes them and I have take one along to Europe for a friend. He had never heard of them.
Yes, Mike Handley of the many Mikes, it seemed most everyone did well. People were spending and there were many bargains.
I bought some figures at one time from a collector in Britain. He asked to be paid in $2 bills because they are somewhat collectible there. I got a bunch at the bank and sent them to him and he was quite happy with them because they were crisp & uncirculated.
I think they’re still available at some banks even now.
Back when the VA paid our travel pay in cash they used to give us $2 bills whenever possible.
