Some Items from Friends Collection Time, two friends John Schebetta and Mike Purchase share some items from their collection. Then I go back into the collection to show more fun items.
Some Items from Friends Marx Skyscraper Figures
John Schebetta shared some more of the Marx Skyscraper people in blue. Here we have 9 of 15 figures in blue.
The figures were supposed to be a part of a Superman set that was not made.
These figures were the type of people you would have found in a building like a skyscraper. The man on the left is an elevator operator almost gone now that we have automatic elevators. Doormen likewise are a rare breed.
I liked the pharmacist from this series. It is a shame they were not reissued when the Untouchable Playset as they would have fit in.
We still have the question of why they were done in blue. At the moment I have no idea where the mold is. Thanks for sharing John
Mike Purchase Knights
Mike loves knights he sent me some photos. Here are the archers, crossbow men & a few Italian mercenaries. 54mm.
There are 82 pictured & 4 more are in the works.
They are designed to fit with my War of the Roses era knights & can be used for either side.
Most of these figures were made by Britain’s but there are a few other makers shown. They are a mix of lead & plastic parts & pieces. All of these figures have been repainted.
On these figures, Mike said this.
Here are some of the War of the Roses knights i have been working on.
There are 3 generations of Britain’s plastic knights in the picture as well as a few other makers in plastic. Some recast parts & pieces were also used. All have been repainted or are still in the process of being painted. Thank you Mike for sharing and if you have something you would like to share please contact me.
Some Items from Friends More From the Collection
Going aboard I discovered figures that I did not see over here. Here we have the Lone Star Sheriff’s men and Robin Hood merrymen. Robin Hood is in the upper right.
Some of the small American toy companies made some nice toys. Here we have four figures from Gay Toys. Gay Toys was started in 1962. They changed their name to Amerian Plastics in 1982. They made mostly vehicles and boats.
From the Marx section of my collection, we have interesting figures. Nick Argento of Glencoe Models discovered the figure on the left when he acquired some molds from American Plastic which bought the Marx molds. The pioneer with an ax and the woman with two buckets were unused. The middle figure is from the miners and trappers group. The Cornwallis is from the two-tier Warriors of the World Redcoat box. The cane had been repaired by Mike Poko.
Great post! The skyscraper/Superman figures are fantastic sculpts. A 1950s-1960s ‘Superman’ set falls under the category of “Oh, What Should Have Been”. Alas…
If the Gay Toys figures/vehicles molds are extant, I hope someone will re-issue them. I had some hand-me-down Gay Toys as a small child. I remember the logo.
Maybe Jay Imel can get access to the molds….? Can’t tell what scale they are, though—45mm?
I like the ‘Lone Star’ figures. They would make a great display on the shelf.
Mike Purchase’s conversions are inspiring. What kid wouldn’t have wanted these soldiers on the living room floor back in the day while “Ivanhoe” was on the TV..?
Again, great post- – lots of variety and nostalgia- – and, of course, found on the one -and-only “Stad’s Stuff ” site.
