Pirate Ship Other Interesting Items, I picked up a pirate ship from Amazon which I reviewed. Then I will share various photos and clarify on BMC Toys.
Pirate Ship Other Interesting Items JL Toys
In the latest issue of Plastic Warrior, they posted that Amazon had a set of pirates from Plastotoys. I went to Amazon and could not find them but I did find this pirate ship.
Made by JL Toys and imported by Liberty Imports the set has two 60mm pirates and an undersized pirate ship. The ad said six but as I noted it only had two.
The figures are inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. This figure is somewhat based on one of Davey Jones’ men.
The other figure is a pirate. I hope that Liberty Imports issues the pirates separately as they did with the medieval figures. They are crude but interesting.
Here is the back of the box. It is an interesting addition to my collection.
Other Figures
Plastic Platoon has a set of conquistadores including an armored dog. I do not own these figures as they are from Russia. The photo is for reference only.
Until this year I had never gotten any of the Palmer sharks. I had the octopus a couple of times. Now I have gotten three of the sharks.
My latest acquisitions for the collection were these two baseball figures. The one on the left is one of the Nabisco Cereal premiums. The other one does not show up on Kent Sprecher’s Ldo page so I will have to check with others.
BMC Toys
Hugh Walter in one of his latest posts talked about finding the BMC Alamo Mexicans on the card with a company name of Wing Wah. This card was sold in Greece. He was confused about how the figures got to Greece.
To clarify the situation I have to go to the conversations Laurie and I had with Bill McMasters of BMC Toys. Bill told us he had an arrangement with a Chinese company to produce playsets and figures. He provided the sculptures, box art, and other materials. In return, he got an exclusive to sell the product in the United States. The Chinese company which we now know as Wing Wah from Hugh had the right to sell to the rest of the world. So the set from Greece is an example of that.
Bill did several of his playsets with this company until the owner died. The owner’s heirs had a falling out with Bill forcing him to find another company for his playsets. Americana Toy Soldiers came into Wing Wah and arranged to sell the old BMC product.
To situation we will now call them Wing Wah soldiers the answer is no. They have been and will stay at BMC Toys. this is what the public know as well.
I have the pirate ship but with two different poses inside.
I found mine at a theme park few years back .
Thanks for making clarification in the BMC history .
Is always great to set the facts straights rather than assumptions or made out tales run around free .
I do picture the sliding baseball player. Lido DD in the picture. Lido sold them on bagged cards in white and gray and in Canada they were used as cereal premiums in white, gray & tan. My INR has been good for two months!
The LIDO ballplayers have great animation, I really like ’em.
I had the one on the right in gray, too. I’d almost forgotten about him. I don’t know where I got him from, just have had him since I was a kid. He might still be in one of my boxes.
Those Conquistadores by PP are their best in a long line of great sculpting. I’ll pass though.
