The Allentown Train Show is one of my closest shows and usually my worse. Over years I have gotten some good stuff at the show but more times I have gotten nothing. I decided to go as I want to see how I would do with my walking. Also I could go to the market and get some cheese and other foods. I got to the fairgrounds where the show was held. Before getting to the show entrance I ran into a friend who already had been at the show. He was disappointing with the show and had only found one item. Undaunted I went into the show.
As I said early the show is not good finding items for resale or the collection. I know some Marx collectors have bought early rights and have already scoured the show for items. I still have found items my competition has missed. Once I purchased a Britains Western Hotel and another time I got two Elastolin catapults. So I still had hopes of finding items. My first stop was a train dealer I see at a flea market, I was hoping to get some 45mm gas station attendants, No such luck so I headed on. I did see someone with 12 Deetail Figures for $12.00, I passed as they were partials of sets three WWII Germans and one WWII Japanese as an example. Another person had the small tin litho train station building that was mentioned in Playset Magazine. The party had a copy of the article next to the piece and wanted $150.00. I passed on it. I also passed on Marx Warehouse put together with accessories for $325.00.
While I was disappointed in not finding anything, I was pleased with my walking. I know there will be other shows and flea markets where I will find items, so it works out in the end. I notice that while there was a crowd of people, there was not a lot of packages being carried. I will talk to some dealers and find out how they did.
After show, I did my shopping for food and headed home.
Speaking of trains, does anyone here have an interest in trains? I have some trains to sell mainly old American Flyer’s, but I do have a Marx Mar-Lines train and some Eldon race car sets. If anyone is interested or wants more details contact me.
