Crescent Mountie Plastic Figure Memory, over the years I have acquired many interesting and unique figures for collection and resale. Some of the figures have pleasant memories associated with them. Also, another memory is when Superman came to Allentown.
Crescent Mountie Plastic Figure Memory Amazing Trip
My father worked for Bethlehem Steel. In 1959, the workers went on strike for 115 days. My parents decided to take a trip to Niagara Falls. Besides sightseeing, my father owned stock in a company called Merrit Chapman and Scott. They were building hydro plants on the falls and they were holding their stockholders ‘ meeting there. My parents thought it would be interesting for me to see.
We took the Lehigh Valley Railroad to Buffalo NY as my parents didn’t drive. I remember sleeping on the train going up to Buffalo. We stayed at a hotel where railroad people stayed as my grandfather on my mother’s side had worked for the railroad.
The next few days we had a wonderful time. Besides seeing the work being done on the hydro plant we went over to the Canadian side and did the sights. My mom was disappointed when she found out what fish and chips were.
My mother talked my father into doing a bus tour of the sights. On the tour, we did Forts George and Niagara. It was at one of the forts I got the Crescent Mountie. I like the pose. It was the only plastic figure I saw on the trip.
He has been with me for 64 years. While he was never a character in my stories he was treated well. He rode to the rescue many times. he now is on a shelf for well rest.
Superman in Allentown
I found this on a site on Facebook. I was there. All I remember is going into the toy department of Hess’s and seeing him standing there as a clerk shot the flying toy.
Hope you named the Mountie Sgt Preston eh LOL.
No I did not. I enjoyed the show, but as I said he was not an important figure to get a name.
Great memories, Paul! Thanks for sharing the stories behind your figures; I really enjoy reading them.
Craig, thanks for the kind words. I am glad you like my stories. As I said not all figures that are in my collection come from shows and have mostly good memories. One of my recent additions came from a box of Hong Kong cowboys I liked the pose. I will do a photo of him soon.
