Toy Hunter Comickaze

Jordan is going to do Comickaze, which is Comic book Convention that honors Stan Lee the co-creator of many Marvel characters (not creator as mention on the voiceover.) Jordan sets a goal of $35,000.00 to make at the show and sets up a plan of action. First Jordan goes with his friend Josh to Ann, a toy designer. Ann did the designs for the Marvel Characters at Toy Biz.  Ann has the original designs for the figures and Jordan gets an idea of  framing the original drawing with the figure. Jordan pays $25.00 a sheet and buys several for the show.  This was a very good purchase as it allows you to market figures a different way.

At the same time as Jordon was buying  the artwork, Jordan’s friend and fellow dealer Mark Huckabone is buying for Comickaze show at Kane County Toy Show. Kane County is the largest toy show in the United States and covers several  buildings. Mark finds a Count Cholula Display stand for himself. Mark then finds a Mego Wizard lot for $80.00. Mark then comes up to a dealer who has a Mego 8″ Wonder Woman Australian  version. This version was done for one year in Australia before the card was changed with the introduction of the Wonder Woman television show to Australia. Because of the short space life, this version is very rare and only four are know to exist. Mark ask the dealer how much and is told the price is $20,000.00. Mark realizes this would be a killer piece for Comickaze. Mark is able  get the price down to $18,000.00 and contacts Jordan  who agrees to split the cost.  Looking at EBay surprising there is an 5th version of this Wonder Woman figure up on EBay. This version the bubble is loose and crushed and the card has wear.  The seller wants $19,999.99 or best offer. Four offers have been made and rejected.   It should be noted that the only thing different from the Wonder Woman U.S.  and  Wonder Woman Australia is the card. This item would be for the variation collector, who has the money and is a completest.

Jordan sends  David his helper to Jeremiah in New Hampshire to find and buy Toy Biz figures related to the drawings that Jordan has bought. Jeremiah has a wide range toys for sale  that he has bought over the years.   The first thing David finds are two Kenner Super Powers figures on the card Desaad and Orion. David pays $200.00 for the pair. Desaad goes for around $50,00 dollars and Orion which gets hardly mentioned on the show goes around $60.00. David next finds Snailien action figures. These were figures put out in 1980’s by JPI International. David buys two sets of the Snailiens one for Jordan and one for himself. On EBay I found one card figure for $19.75 so depending how many are in set that David got it is a good buy.  David finds Toy Biz Marvel figures  that Jordan needs and buys them. David  pays $45.00 for a Galactus, which I saw  for sale on EBay  at $60.00.

The final section is at the Comickaze where they are ready to sell. Mark Huckabone is late as usually (not because of Kane County as that was a week earlier). Sales go well and they get a buyer for the Mego Wonder Woman Australian version for $28,000.00. Their last buyer is the man himself Stan Lee.  Stan likes action figure with the drawings and buys the rest. Jordan has made his goal and gotten a new client.

As I tweeted to Jordan, I do not like the money shows.  With the items he has and the amount of people going through, he should make his goal.  I am more impress with a party that does a local toy show or flea market and does a goal of a thousand or more as he is up against smaller number of customers. The Mego Wonder Woman Australian version is interesting but because of its rarity it is only for the elite collector with big bucks. Pieces like that have a danger of losing their value if a find is found in some warehouse.

The show did a good example of how to prepare for a show.  Jordan made a smart move of pairing the figure with the drawing as the figure alone would not command the price he got.  The show also showed the danger of pickers out.  While the pickers got items for Jordan, they also got items for themselves.  Some of those items would have been good for the show.  Kane county toy show is the biggest toy show in the country and I believe Jordan has never been there.

Yes I tweet with Jordan Hembrough, we are both on twitter. He asked people last week if they like the show? As I said, I don’t like the money shows where Jordan sets a goal. You know he will make it due the material and number of people coming in. I am more interested in the average person who goes to a flea market or toy show and does good.
