June 2023 London Toy Soldier Show Another Health Update

I finally got the catheter out of me after one year and eighteen days. I knew I had an enlarged prostate, but could not do anything due to me being Laurie’s caregiver. Finally, when I could do something about it I had my accident and needed to get my ab fib back in order. As I noted they did the TURP in the middle of June. It took two weeks to get the bladder to work as they had a large catheter than what I was using. It is great to be normal again.

Me and my brother went to the show. We got there at 9.15am for the early bird. We ordered at lot of figures from Matt at Hobby bunker which he brought to the show for us and a lot of extras which we had off of him as well. Went to see our friend Fred Barrett and Gareth Morgan also Steve Viccars. We bought two catapults and a box of figures from the lord of the rings films from Gareth. Then we had a look around and we saw a Conte bridge from set 1 of the d-day playsets. So we had that as well. We went to the show with £800.00 and came back home with £100.00. We was well happy with what we bought. We will being going to the Christmas show. To see what else we can get our hands on there

James I am glad you had a good time. I have done great at shows people have said are poor. It can take just one table. My friend Michael and his friends seemed happy with what they got and a new German collector was buying.

  2. Peter Evans says:

There was a strange atmosphere at the show. A sort of resigned abstract depression amongst a lot of the dealers.
Very few people through the doors, some traders packing up by 2pm
A general feeling that the organiser’s had to all extent and purpose had given up promoting the show and hoping that the combination of the Soldier and Modelling shows will somehow give it another lease of life.

I believe there’s also the memories of past shows that might throw a shadow on current shows. I’ve never been to the Chicago Show (it is my hope one day to make that “Hajj”) just hasn’t been in the cards so far. But I know listening to others who remember the “glory days” the show isn’t what it used to be. Being my first, I wouldn’t know.

I hope one day to return to the Texas Show in San Antonio, now that it appears to be back on track. My wife and I enjoy the trip, the town, and the people. I wasn’t able to make it this year due to health reasons. I got to thinking about it, several of the folks I loved seeing there are no longer with us. Would it be the same? No.

Nothing stays the same. But hats off to those who are still here with us trying to carry the torch. I just hope discouragement doesn’t settle in.

    Hi

I couldn’t get to the show then or the one in Dec 2nd 2023.
    Can you help.
I’m looking for the person who sells the large figures on photo
Number 12. It’s the figures on the green display stand.

    Regards

    Jeff Slater
