2023 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show Review, once again I went to this great show. I had a good time last year and I wanted to see if I have a good time. Here is my review of this great show.
2023 Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show Review a Fun Time
There are so many adjectives one could use for the Gettysburg Toy Soldier Show. The best I would think is fun. It is a show with so many options for the collectors. You can figure in all price ranges and different makers. Here are Mike Martello’s tables as he had Britains, Timpo, and Lido.
I arrived at the show a half hour before it opened. After paying my admission I sat for the doors opened. Once in I looked for Warhorse Miniatures as I was using them as a base. After checking in with Mike and Carolyn I started my hunt. My first stop was Mike’s tables for Timpo figures.
From Mike’s tables, I started my hunt for items for resale. I started to find items from the next table. over. I thought I would find Marx, but what I did not think I got was Plasty from Germany. One table had a Plasty Confederate caisson and cannon and a Surrey. Another table had Plasty Civil War.
If you want Armies in Plastic you get boxes or loose figures.
If you wanted playsets they were there such as this Marx Blue and Gray playset from Allan Ford.
I was walking the rows and saw a box of 45mm figures. The box had on it Italian figures. The owner was Bill Hanlon who wanted to know who made them. I recognized them as Fontanni. Mike said he figured I or Erwin would know. I bought them.

Some people were complaining that the show was turning into a plastic show. There were metal figures ranging from old to new.
The metal elephants were sold by an old friend Paul Amody. He had an interesting selection of figures.
I was glad to see an old and dear friend Mark Mc Dermott. Mark had just gotten out of the hospital and stopped at a flea market before e getting to the show where he got a Marx Garloo. My enjoyment is seeing old friends and talking to them. I get a kick out of how people miss my old lists.
One of my pleasures was to help out Mike Prendergast. As Mike reports in his review of the show he found his grail want the Conte Collectibles cog ship. The problem was he had no room in his car for it. I was happy to take home with me. You can also see a video of the show by Paul Knapp.
I had a great time and will go back in August. You can see a video
I’m glad you and Mike ,friends enjoyed it much and found goodies .
Sounds like a blast. Thanks for sharing the pictures.
Paul: Can you give me the name of the dealer who had the Plasty items? I’m looking for the caisson/limber set that you saw. If you’re not sure can you tell me who the show promoter is, and I can see if he can identify him for me? Thank you
Tim
I can not give you the name of the dealer as I bought the Plasty Caisson and have already sold it. I have a collector that is a big Plasty collector. sorry, I will keep a lookout for you.
I’m having trouble finding the Plasty caisson in that photo. I only see a grey Marx caisson with grey cannon and tan Marx horses.
Plasty civil war cannons I see on eBay look nothing like Marx.
Thank you Paul. When they come up on EBay they are expensive. And they carry a big shipping cost as they usually come from Europe.
Tim, I was surprised to see it. The dealer normally has reissues and American figures. I like Plasty. The nicest piece is the cook wagon with all its pieces. I had one and sold it. I hate to hear the price for it now.
