Health Update
On January 5th I went to the hospital to have an ablation. As reported in previous posts they had tried cardio with no luck.
I was supposed to have this procedure in November but they found 30 pounds of water on me. I ended up six days in the hospital; getting my water weight down. When I went into today I was 30 pounds plus lighter. Everything went well and I am home to do my recovery. I want to thank Joan my personal nurse for the day and the staff at LVHN for the great treatment. My only complaint I had the driest hamburger in my life.
Also thank you for Sherrie’s Sparky’s dog walker for taking and picking me up.
One side effect was I retained water which took a few days to get out of my body. I have one major health procedure
I’m glad for you Paul and those helping you .
The RES figures are awesome painted ,not converted that how poses are ,i had several of those as well japanese,Soviets and germans .While the RES poses are less active/action classic poses, some are new and nice ;least in germans and soviets .RES figures were done by same artist who work for Atlantic in same sets .Some of the DAK atlantic poses appear not be converted as far i recall their poses or very alike original poses ,just nicely realistic painted .Good job!!!
The first marines poses are by RES(Res Plastic S.p.A) ;not Atlantic .Atlantic Marines poses are very different included 2 firing and 2 placing the banner-AKA mount suribachi scene first flag raising ,there other 6 included 4 base in Airfix US infantry poses too .
RES was a small toy maker for surprise candy and chocolate products .RES figures were included as surprise in bags ,The artist was the same person who worked for Atlantic in last sets The RES germans ,american, japanese and soviet poses none are firing minus one ,also some have odd weapons too .Most RES figures were made in silver ,gold and other odd colors .
RES plastics salso produced figures for Dulcop,Kinder,Ferrero and RPS
I paint my armies in plastic, and some do have problem with the paint usually they peel after a while, but for the most part they turn out fine. either I rinse them in warm water (I was told that hot brings out oils or something) before painting, you could also just spray them with protective paint which also works, but for me the most effective way is to find the one that have being collecting dust in a box for a year or so then they paint up just perfectly. (The part that will almost always peel is the gun or sword)
My technique was to scrub them with detergent, then apply a plastic bonding spray (Fusion was the best, but there are several good ones out now, Rustoleum’s are great, too) as a primer. After that I would paint the figures and then seal them with a matte or flat acrylic spray sealant. That eliminated virtually all flaking and peeling on my plastic figures. Being, he’s only wanting to do one color, I don’t see why he can’t find a suitable gray tone, spray it and seal it.
Re: Mr Salvi’s figures – I love the paint jobs. I was never a big fan of the Atlantic sculptor’s style or choice of poses, but his paint jobs have really made these figures stand out. Kudos! Thanks for sharing them Pau.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of health problems; the last few years have been tough. As an old Army buddy of mine (who’s going through Agent Orange issues) says, “Growing old is NOT for sissies, but it can beat the alternative.”
Paul, I’m glad your procedure went well and you had good people to help and support you. Continued prayers for your return to good health.
I like those gray Mississippi Rifles that Greg has gathered so far. I like the look of frock coats and Hardee/Jeff Davis hats. I used to reenact Iron Brigade. I don’t recall a southern regiment so dressed but it is a sharp look; likely early war.
Frederico has done a marvelous job of painting those figures!
Stad, I hope your health continues to improve. And I hope you find more time to enjoy your collection. I check your site regularly.
It’s been a long time since I posted or tried to comment. I may be going about it wrong. My apologies if this is the case.
Just wanted to give my opinion on the new CHINTOYS Police and Gangster figures. I just received mine from Steve Weston. I think the sculpting is great. I love the poses. The material is not too stiff, not too soft.
The FLAPPER figure REALLY impressed me. Very realistic, and she has a derringer in her stocking. About three of the Gangsters fit in very well with CHELOVOCEK Victorian England figures, as to size and quality and category. The weapons are realistic- the pump shotgun may or may not be slightly large (but it is acceptable.) I am truly glad I got these 2 sets.
Now, for the other side of the coin. You may have to trim a little flashing or over-mold from some of the figures, but mine were not bad. (Just not perfect.) And if you are thinking of setting them up alongside Marx Untouchables- forget it. Not even close. CHINTOYS are much more filled out, and quite a bit larger all around. Some of the Untouchables accessories may be a good fit.
I really like them, and may buy another set. These are just my thoughts.
WHILE I HAVE YOUR EAR… Does anyone reading this have a set of the CUBAN/Castro/Che figures that they will part with? The figures MAY be Basevich, I’m not sure.
Just my thoughts. Mike

The paint on the Marines is first rate.
Only problem is none of these guys are firing their weapons?
That’s always been the big issue with Atlantic figures, at least for me! Outstanding paint job on all of the poses, though–very impressive!

Pulling for you.
Glad to hear your procedure went well, Paul, and it sounds like you’re on the path to recovery!
