Mid Winter Toy Show

We decided to do the Mid Winter Toy Show as we were tired of being stuck inside due to the snow and cold weather.  The ride was pleasant as the roads were clear. We arrived at the show an half hour after it opened. As we were going in we ran into our very good friend Andy Levinson. I have known Andy for over 30 years. Andy is a licensing lawyer and was person who helped me get the Jackie Gleason license. We talked about various things and found out his daughter Elizabeth was in California trying for an acting career. Laurie and I still remembered when Elizabeth was a young girl sleeping under a table at a flea market as Andy was selling items.

We headed into the show and went to the left. I went that way because of a dealer last year had a good selection of the figures. The dealer was not there this year, but we did run into another very good friend Bill Kozlowski. Bill is one of three brothers, who I have know for over 30 years. Bill had many interesting items including a Space Patrol Ray Gun with holster and a desk side trash can with Hanna Barbera characters. We headed into one of the two main rooms where we went to the tables of our very good friend Gerry Watts.  Gerry is known for his plastic and lead toy figures, at a toy show, Gerry will have other toys including dolls and action figures.  We talked to Gerry about the  hobby and some of his recent finds. Looking over Gerry’s goods, I found someone had put some lead figures in the Marx Warrior of the World box.  While I was looking over Gerry’s tables, Laurie spotted on another dealer’s table some brass animals. We asked the dealer about the brass animals and he told us that his father had got them in Africa 60 years ago. The dealer named the price for the whole lot, which we thought was fair so we purchased them.

We stopped and talked to Chris Lambert another good friend and continued  down the aisles.  We were amazed in the diversity with action figures being the dominant item at the shows.  In the next aisle we found  a dealer doing a close out of various toys he was carrying. I got some Force of Valor pirates two packs and space ships. I saw that the dealer had some Play Along Lord of Rings items and asked if they were in the sale. The helper asked the dealer and the dealer replied, he was tired of carrying them.  I purchased them and we headed to the other major room.

I was hoping to find a anther friend who carries cereal premiums and  figures, but  he was not there. Laurie found a Taz the Tasmanian Devil glass for a fifth of its normal price. The only thing that annoy Laurie the woman just put it into a  bag and did not wrap it. We later got a bag from Gerry and it arrived home separately. On the outside of the room in the hall was another friend Dean Klein. Dean deals in various toys.   We talked about various items and then headed back  to Gerry Watts’ tables.  I made some various selections of items  and paid for my items. Just after I paid for the items I found two different Pan the God lead figures at Gerry’s table. I purchased them for Laurie and we headed out.  On the way home we stopped at Laurie’s favorite Indian restaurant.

Overall all the show, we had a very good show. We made some good purchases for resale and the collection. The added bonus is seeing people we have met over years. On the show itself, when we came into the show we saw a number of people taking items out. There were a number of items at the show that you could purchase making a profit. One dealer had mint in the box Action Jackson figures in the box for $20.00 and the uniforms mint in the box for  $10.00.  As I mentioned before there was a wide variety of toys ranging from 30’s trucks to Lego figures. The key was if they had items you could use.
