Odds Ends July 2022 Books
The first book is from our very good friend Rahway. It is a book on Britain’s swoppet knights. Titled Swords and Roses by Ed Poole. The book covers every aspect of this interesting series. You can find more at this link.
Warhorse Miniatures and Plastic Platoon are creating some very exciting figures!
Perhaps an ACW niche series of figures would be nice– American vivandieres … Clara Barton and nurses… also just regular females/wives/sweethearts who turned out to see a soldier off to battle…
I’d also like to see civilian men from the ACW period. Store clerks, sutlers, gentleman, vagabonds, even teens and kids gawking at the soldiers marching by.
With the advances in 3-D printing, just about any figure set is possible.
Fellow hobbyists, what say ye..?
The members of the IPMS club I belong to pooled our money and bought a good 3D printer. It works great and I’ve been trained to make prints with it, but I don’t have any files to print yet. Still working on that.
I think he may have plan in future more Saxons ,Vikings ,Normans and maybe angles and welsh as well .Saxons had plenty war against each other in early Anglia-Britain settlement as well the Anglo Saxon era and against angles in the Anglia peninsular now Denmark and back in Germany before invading British isles .The figures are awesome generic and have a more broad generic uses and as consequence serve to represent any mid to early medieval Germanic and norther Europe people overall more accordingly for all seasons .
We look forward to reading about your thoughts on the new figure sets, but we will also be anxious to hear about your health updates.
It’s cool that you were acquainted with the great Larry Storch! What a great story. Marx should have made a playset with character figures and that cool fort!
Anyhow– we all hope the healing is coming along, and we hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Gary
There are many playsets that Marx should have done but didn’t. There are various reasons why they didn’t. It could have been licensing costs or that they felt that they would have to make too many new parts. I visited Gene Scala one of the people who bought the Marx warehouse. He read to me a list of playset proposals. One of the playsets was Tales of the Bengal Lancers which was used years later in the miniature playsets.
Oh, and I liked the Marx “Big House” playset with the tin litho prison walls & revolving front gate. They re-tooled the Al Capone figure into prison garb.
The Mars Ukrainians look great, I wonder if they will do Russians. Also how do I get ahold of plastic platoon new sets?
Those are great figures of a much needed period in our current history and hoping Mars will also release a contemporary Russian soldier set.

Whom would the Saxons be fighting?
Are there opposing figures in this range?

I remembered seeing an “F Troop” or “Fort Courage” playset or something like it. So I looked it up and found these:

There was a metallic set of some sort that came out. I remember thinking it was kind of cheezy.
There is an F Troop playset on eBay , the photos show the contents fairly well.

Plastic Platoon Pirates look awesome , especially the skeleton with the treasure chest ! Kudos to the sculptor !
