Part Two June 2022 Odds Ends Mars Toys, we look at two future company releases. The second new company is from Russia which will not be the available U.S. I need to know if I should still show Russian products or not. We note the passing of two notable this past weekend.
Part Two June 2022 Odds and Ends Mars Toys
Publius Battle of Poitiers
In my introduction, I mention I want feedback on whether I should continue showing new production from Russia. It is not available to the U.S. Let me know.
Very sad to hear the news of Ed Borris passing, we also had some conversations via ebay sales over the years. Although I never met him in person, I thought of him as a friend. Ed, you will be missed by many. Tim Connelly at sportscarlycody.
I fail to see how making things difficult for Russian toy production really helps Ukraine. The thing that would help would be if Europe bit the bullet and stooped importing Russian fossil fuel.
Would like you to carry on showing new items from Russia. The conflict in Ukraine is very similar to me as the Cuban missile crisis.
Keep showing the NEW Russian produced figures. Even if we can’t purchase them it’s great to see what is being produced.
We have to be able to separate the art /artist from their nation’s politics. Keep showing us the Russian made figures please.
Hi Folks,
I agree that these Russian makers do not represent the government. There is one individual who I am in contact with who sells the excellent new Hanomak figures who, like myself, had immediate family members who lived and died in the Great Patriotic War against Germany. They want no part of this war. The person who I am in contact with has mentioned that her family who went through the war against Germany are entirely unsettled and never thought that they would live to see anything like this again.
Nick and Ed will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace my friends.
I do not plan on buying any Russian made plastic figures or any other Russian product while their government continues their invasion of Ukraine. I’m sure there are Russian Citizens who do not support this action, and others who do, and others who are given false info about it from their government on which to base their opinions. I just hope the more Russians who are affected financially by their government’s actions will give consideration to working toward change, however difficult that may be.
Dear Paul,
please keep on in informimng us about Figures from Russia. Your page is a valuable source of info.
Andreas
As far the advertise and posting from Russia come with no political influenced propaganda ,pro war else it is Ok for me personally .However I will not buy any from Russia for time been .Two reason for that I have .
1- Mailing shipping from and to Russia is difficult now more than ever ,since March 14 USPS suspend deliveries in and out .I have two bad experience in items bought in late February just before invasion .
2-I had seen in other blogs some of these makers expressing their supporting in very open nasty way of such blatant invasion and I’m against it ,so those supporting it have my dislike and ban personally .
My thoughts .
best
Does anyone know how many sets of the hundred years war did Forces of Valor make. As I have seen figures on EBAY that I don’t seem to have in my collection.
4 poses each each army plus 1 pose each special edition sold limited as far I know.
So many amazing figures !
Rest in peace, Ed and Nick.
I saw Nick and Deanna Versteeg at the Westcoaster Toy Soldier show at the end of February. They were selling off some terrain pieces and other items that they still had, and I purchased an Alamo lunette from them. I talked to Deaana a bit as I made the purchase, Nick was in a conversation with a friend. I did not know it was the last time I’d see him. I’m thankful for all the Versteeg’s did for the hobby with the introductions of new figures and foam pieces. I also greatly enjoyed attending the Westcoaster Toy Soldier Show over the years. Sending prayers of peace and comfort for Deanna.
When I think of Nick and Ed, I think especially about the Alamo. (But TSSD’s Wyatt Earp figures also got my attention and I had to get them, too!)
I only knew of Ed through this blog, and I really enjoyed his Mexican Soldado conversions. Such amazing and excellent work Ed did! I pray for peace and comfort to his daughters.
Playset Magazine did a nice writeup about Nick and Ed on their website. It’s been a tough last few months for the hobby. I pray for your recovery and restored health, Paul and for your peace and comfort as Laurie and Quinn live on through your good memories of them.
Jon,
Your post brought a sadness again, as I thought of the loss of three great folks these past few months. I had the pleasure of knowing Nick and Ed not only through our correspondence over twenty or so years, texts, e-mails, and occasional phone calls, but some great time spent together at the Texas Show. And I believe all of us felt we knew Laurie through Paul’s posts.
As you rightly said, they live on through our memories. As long as they’re not forgotten they’re not truly dead. Blessings to you again, Paul
Yes, for me this has been a time of sadness. Laurie was a great backup and help. I am working to get back to where I was. The hobby has lost two other people who meant a lot. Not a fun time.
