Hi Paul. The Compagnies Franches de la Marine set should be done in about a month or so. I will be working on some other French & Indian War figures later on this year too. They will be scaled about same as Barzso French & Indian War figures.
Great to have a new post with so many new announcements.
I had the Remco “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea “playset. Alas, the SeaView was a victim of my older brothers’ pellet rifles in the rain-filled ditch ( with my cooperation, sadly).
I still only have the figure on the right.
Hope you and Ms Laurie are doing well. Howdy and g’night from Texas…
Those gatling gun photos are awesome!!
Lots in this post! I destroyed my Seaview, too. That would be a lot of fun to have again.
It amazes me that there can be fighting and drama over something as harmless and fun as toy soldier collecting.
What color are the ACW figures in the Canadian set? They look very dark but can’t tell beyond that.
Greg
Sadly there are some people in the hobbies that have to cause drama. I have been dealing with them for years. I just want to enjoy the hobby.
There is something awkward looking about the French Marine firing the musket.
He does not appear to be sighting along the barrel and it just looks weird.
These figures look like computer designed, etc. The first figure is maybe shouting
something but not using either weapon, not a very useful pose.
These are prototype designs. They are 3d renders of the figures. They are computer designed and 3D printed. Some things have been changed already. The first figure is an officer and the setting is depicting an ambush being sprung. The second figure is part of the second set in development and will be changed a little.
Mike-
I think the Compagnies Franches de la Marine project is fantastic. The first thing that came to mind for me is that the uniforms would be a heckuv-a-lot easier and more fun (for me) to paint than many of the elaborate uniforms the Europeans wore in other historical periods. I also see some conversion possibilities.
I applaud your efforts to research, design, print, and distribute such great new product.

Other comments– judging from the underwhelming response about the Elasto-Wit sets– I’m thinking that most American collectors are still puzzling over the sculpts.
Seems to me the company could save a little money by conserving a lot of that plastic for the rest of the world and make the figs a little less chunky and by reduce the size of the bases.

As for the Gatling Gun set– I would have loved getting that for birthday/Christmas (still would 🙂 )!

And as always–Thanks to Paul & Laurie for this great site.

Elastowit is basing its figures on East Germany DDR which are popular in Eastern Europe and Russia. They are selling well.
For many Elastwit may looks funky, maybe grotesque else to some as well. Yet…
The maker; Serhiy had done his figures on purpose in that style. I respect his personal decision and making as is his money and his dream. As he explained several times .He based his figures in former DDR east Germany rubber and plastic figures in the Soviet era that were in turn base in former composition pre WW2 style figures made in Germany ,Italy and few other countries .While figures have their unique style appearance that to some looks odd .I personally like that as they blend well with those former DDR figures as well with TM ,PAYTON, LIDO brand figures that also had the funny toy playful appearance but also because had produced sets of thematic never done before such the Time machine .I applaud and support his project personally as I do collect figures split in two groups hobbies. Historical and non-historical toy figures in appearance. Also, his prices seem much better than most coming today from east Europe that often had create an inflation mentality in toy soldiers’ producers today that keep going up regarding prices. A trend starter in 2013 with Publius brand
At the end is of course personal the like or not of figures and if bad done or not is our personal judging and we all should respect each other for so., we all can say so and express plus reserve right to buy or not. I do too sometimes as well and been criticized by others for saying so .Personally on these figures and style I find them within my like and interest and same time I admit they have a intentional made funny looking in some poses more than others .
My thoughts
You may read more in an interview done to the maker by fellow collector and post in this forum in previews post here

Hi Gary. Thanks for the kind words. Originally I was just going to do a single figure. But the more research I did the more it expanded. I like the idea that this regular unit had adapted to the Canadian wilderness. Some of them went native in dress & gear. I started with pictures & art form the internet, then information from some books, advice from collectors, historical reenactors and then a board member from Fort Ticonderoga. I’m trying to make them as accurate as I can. When I’m finished with this set I will make another set of French Marines with the Capote type winter jackets and later on some Canadian Militia & Native Indians. Maybe some other things eventually.
Erwin-
Thank you for your observations ( I always look forward to your posts on this site, BTW). I want to say you make some some excellent points, and I completely agree with your comments.
My post on ElastoWit did come across as negative, and I am sorry it did. You make a great point that Vitliy is financing, researching, sculpting, and marketing such a personal project from the heart. ANd he knows the audience he is producing for.
We should be grateful he is making the things so many of us what we all love. “The Time Machine” playset is a very original thought– and it very much captures the essence of the classic film.
I wish ElastoWit great success, and I look forward to seeing future figure sets/themes.
I’m also still grateful to Paul and Laurie– because without their efforts, I would not even know about so much toy soldier news and collector’s views.
No problem at all Gary ,as I say I respect if you like or not a figure ,we all can not have same like and I agree some poses looks funny ,I just try explain or clarify the reason behind it .That was all .
Always a pleasure to talk and see your good comments here .
Stadsuff is the number one blog posting all new coming plus in US .
Best regards
Gary
I did not think your comment was negative. Right now the prevalent push in the hobby is historical. Serhiy is trying to recapture the figures he grew up with. He has found a niche which there is a great interest which other people like. It is great to see them.
…and, alas, the night I posted (17th) was the very day the lovely Yvette Mimieux passed away.
Sad news; I hadn’t heard. Dwayne Hickman, Meat Loaf, and now Yvette… a lot of memories from our youth…
