November 2021 Odds Ends Plastic Platoon Pirate, the new and future plastic figures keep coming. First, I have a preview of a Plastic Platoon pirate. Then Tihon figures are showing mounted Indian chiefs. Little Man has expanded their Victorian London. Breaking news Chintoys is back with Union Zouaves.
November 2021 Odds Ends Plastic Platoon Pirate
Plastic Platoon is not resting on its laurels. They have started to show a sample of future line pirates! The photo above shows the first pirate. He is firing a pistol with another one ready. What is neat about this figure he also has two pistols in his belt. I can’t wait to see the other poses.
November 2021 Odds Ends Tithon Indian Chiefs
Rahway, Erwin, and others have been watching a site called Tihon for the latest releases from Russia. They just pop up with a series of mounted Indian chiefs on a 1/24 scale. they resin soft plastic. The first one here is Kicking Bear. The next one is Roman Nose. The third one is Wind in his HairSitting Bull is the fourth pose with a shield and a tomahawk.Phizi Gall their fifth pose with a coup stick and a pistolThe final pose is Kpachoe Ognako Indian chief with a tomahawk and a shield. No price or release date has been given. (Note I do not know if the above name is correct or not.)
Little Man Victorian London Set 2
Little Man has added to their London Victorian. They are as follows gentleman boxer, a gentleman with a cane, detective assistant, detective with pipe, hunter with rifle at the waist, and elderly retire soldier with a sword. This is a great addition to your collection.
Chintoys Union Zouaves
Just as I was putting this post to bed, Igor Basevitch posted this picture of the next release of Chin Toys. as you can see it will be Union Zouaves. the set has 8 different poses. They are as follows.
I will probably get the Chintoys Zouaves. The Plastic Platoon figures are nice. But they are too expensive. Plus sometimes the weapons are not straight because of the material used. Little Man is nice too. They are expensive too. I would only get some of the sets if it was my main interest. I wish the Tithon Indians were smaller, 1/24 scale is like a sculpture. I wonder what the price is for those?
Agree about the scale of the Indians, too bad very nice sculpts. The Sherlock Holmes set is nice except the Holmes and Watson figures are a little too cartoonish for me.
I might fork over the money for the PP Pirate set of the rest of the set looks as great as the one above. I collect Pirates but the only thing is there are a lack of enemies for them, being that 95% of Pirates are modeled after the Golden Age of Piracy about 1690-1745. The armored Conquistadors that Hollywood used as enemies were From the 1500’s to 1680’s or so. Someone should do early 1700 English as they would be great enemies for a set of Rob Roy Clansmen as well as Pirates.
It’s probably ok for Watson and Holmes to be cartoonish since they are not historical. Fictional characters can be however you imagine them.
So many new figures all the time can’t keep up with them, budget won’t allow for their purchase anyway but it’s nice to be able to see them.
Enemies for Pirates!
Try looking at ‘replicants toy soldiers’ also google’ Steve Weston Toy soldiers.’
Replicants do early British/french 1700’s tricorn hat figures.
They also do Scottish Clansman figures.
The Russian ‘ Technolog ‘ company do five soldiers from the 1700’s they are superb, good value and well sculpted if a bit on the ‘tubby’ side! They look very European in style so could be painted as other nationalities although they are modelled on a Russian Regiment which I can’t spell! You have to search for them as there are many different time periods that Technolog do. They are light blue in colour.
I agree on all counts concerning the figures; the only thing to add is that I expect to get at least one set of Chintoys – two if they come out in blue and gray. My zouaves are always in need of new recruits!
The REAL Roman Nose was a Cheyenne & was killed at the Beecher Island battle. The Indians look great as does the Plastic Platoon pirate & The Victorian fellas. Where can you buy the Little Men figures ??
Wow!– great post–lots to absorb…!
The PP pirate is an astounding sculpt. More Ovaltine, please! But my first reaction was:
Collector’s Dream; Painter’s Nightmare! This fig’s eyelashes and nostril hairs, crinkly socks, home-cast brass buttons– not to mention his fashionable curls– are so detailed.
Hats off! to the Mad Sculptor of PP Pirates! I hope he/she won’t walk-the-plank before taking Tom Black’s advice and sculpting some dedicated, fierce, God-Save-the-Queen British Navy opponents . Paint that!
Tihons Indian sculpts. Great stuff, but if they have an R & D person: Please do some research to see what scale this line will appeal to ( and save plastic, too).
Roman Nose State Park is near Watonga, Oklahoma. Although, he was killed in a battle in CO.
Little Man– glad that the sculpts are always so animated… but if a dioramist/painter is building a scene— how ’bout figs that are engaging in day-to-day activities? Like… pulling a cart…selling veggies…women interacting with vendors…kids playing in the street… vagrants warming by a barrel fire…? Just brainstorming ideas.
Chintoys strikes again— nice Zouaves. I agree— red or blue–not green.
Anyone think it likely that Chintoys will make more ACW sets; regular infantry, mounted enlisted troopers, or hopefully Pioneers/Engineers? Hospital staff? Supply personnel,
Horse handlers? They could make figures unique to plastic ACW soldiers.
I don’t know, they seem to make the popular troops of an era then move on. Chintoys haven’t gone in-depth on anything. Your ACW list is interesting but I would add Union Naval Gun crews or landing party.
A great ACW set would be the observation balloon with ground crew or telegrapher’s wagon and crew. Not very likely but contributed greatly to success of the North.
A selling point might be a young Custer figure as he volunteered for balloon duty early in his career while they lasted. That’s where he drew a lot of attention from McClellan that launched his meteoric rise – one of the places, that is. I could see a young LT or Captain Custer with binoculars in his hands surveying the horizon. A fun (but probably more realistic pose) would be him hanging by one arm swinging from the balloon – action pose! LOL
These are all great ideas. Even wargaming scenarios could use civilian spectators…refugees…sutlers/sutler’s provision wagons… field nurses…construction battalions (The Fighting Seabees!)… women & children…

Fabulous Indians but what a terrible scale.

The Zuaves could be used as French Zouaves unit from 1848-1870 easy .Also as turks from Crimea war with minor changes.
I would prefer blue and gray on the Zoauves but agree the red would make them useful for a whole realm of possibilities.
they will be done in blue
Works for me; that’s why we have Fusion paint.
